A Spot of Tea Sir?

Perhaps one of the most vivid memories I have of childhood are the afternoons I spent with my grandmother having tea parties with the little China set that had been passed down, broken pieces and all to me. I had many fun hours with grandma pretending to have tea with the Queen of England. Suffice to say, I have always had a soft spot for all things tea whether it is a mini tea set, a tea cup, or a box of tea. So when I was visiting the Pasadena Langham Hotel (think fancy) and spotted all these ladies having tea I knew I must go sometime. So flash forward a year and me being bored, I thought to myself, "Hey, maybe it's time for a little indulgence," maybe it's time for tea. So I made a reservation this past week. On Saturday, we put on Sunday best and hubby and I set forth to afternoon tea at the fancy Langham Hotel. The lounge at the Langham Hotel was much fancier than the little wooden table and chairs that Grandma and I used to have our parties. This pa

Rejuvenate, Renew, Refocus

I am in a funk. I admit it. My days have been boring and so have my evenings. I don't do well with slow because it gets my brain thinking and I have incredibly high standards for myself. Does anyone else feel like they are on a mission and they desperately need to complete it before the time is up? Well, I always feel like I am on a mission and sadly right now, I feel like mission control is loosing their way. At first glance, I think the only thing wrong with me is that my brain needs some stimulation. Work has been incredibly slow. It usually gets this way after the summer blockbusters have opened but it feels like it is lasting a lot longer than normal. Most people would probably rejoice in the break but not me. There are only so many YELP reviews a girl can write in her spare time. Then there is home. Hubby is working nights. I am not normally a person who needs to be babysat and requires attention but lately I find myself needing that attention. Perhap

Class Reunion 2013

...I'm getting old. So I get a notice on FaceBook today that some kids want to start planning our 20 year high school reunion. We never had a 10 year. The closest I got to a reunion was going to hubby's 10 year which was a hoot if I may say. Anyhow, I was yearbook editor. Here is a picture of the Class of 1993. 20 years. Can't believe it! Can you guess which one is me?

Happy Birthday Toby

Brokencandy wishes a great friend a very happy birthday! Have fun in Vegas!! Those buffets better watch out! Fun Fact: Toby and I first met when he was milking a cardboard cow. And guess what he won a trophy for that.

World Cup 2010

Have you been watching the World Cup? Seems like America has been taking a bit more interest than in years past. Last year I was lucky to see first hand what the World Cup was all about when I was overseas for work. Not to mention that working in international you hear about the games all day long. In fact, meetings are interrupted to get the latest scores. Anyhow, here is the world's smallest World Cup fan, my nephew, Will. He rooted for Ireland.

RESTAURANT REVIEW Taste on Melrose….

Wondering what that new red icon is on the side of my blog that has YELP all over it? Well it’s a Yelp button which connects you tot he reviews that I have written for several restaurants in LA. I have been having a lot of fun writing lately. If you are interested in some good places to eat in LA then check the review out! This past Wednesday, I got together with several of my studio girlfriends at Taste on Melrose. Here is a review of that experience. Taste on Melrose Categories: American (New), Breakfast & Brunch Neighborhood: West Hollywood 7/15/2010 Ate here last night with 4 girlfriends. Our reservations were for 7:30pm but two of us got there at 6:30pm. We asked the hostess if we could sit at the bar and she said the bar only sat 3 people and there were already 2 people in the seats. So we asked if we could be sat at our table since the place seemed to be empty. She said she would have to check. My girlfriend and I looked at each other and rolled our eyes. She came

Moses Makes It to the Big Island of Hawaii!!!

From Moses: When mom and dad went to Maui they made a travel bug for me. In case you don't know, it's something that travels around from geocache to geogache. I'm not sure what all that stuff means, but they told me it was a way for me to virtually travel in Hawaii. Pretty cool. Today I moved for the first time! I'm on the big ...island now at a pretty beach. Now all I need is a virtual Mai Tai. Happy 31st Neil

Brokencandy would like to wish Big Arms, Neil a very happy birthday!

Happy Birthday Becky!

Happy 35th birthday to my dear friend, Becky, whom I have known since the 6th grade. Have a great day!

Hair Cut

We were afraid to get Moses' hair cut for the longest time. He has such pretty hair that I didn't want some groomer to strip it all away. But seeing as the poor guy was getting quite hot we decided to take the plunge. We went to our favorite dog place, Wagville and they did the deed. I have to say thought I quite like the cut. Makes my boy look like a little puppy again. I think Mo is enjoying it too. I am so glad this turned out well!

Lollipop's Book Club

So the last month I wrote I was going to try and read some books over the summer and provided a list of summer reading I had found on the internet. After looking on Amazon and at Barnes and Nobles (although I love their books stores, their books are a little pricey) I finally purchased some reads the other night when I was at Target. I decided to buy three books as they were super cheap. Here is what I bought to start off my summer book reading program. 1. Water for Elephants and 2. Two Charlene Harris books a.k.a. two Sookie Stackhouse books (the first two in the series). I decided to start with Water for Elephants as I read this week they are making a movie out of this book (of course) with Rob Pattinson (Edward from Twilight) and Reese Witherspoon. It seems to center on the circus. Well, at least what the book covers leads me to believe. I only got a few pages in because I decided to take a bubble bath and read and well, if I wanted the book to remain unwet it is probably

Wildflowers

I can hardly believe it's been 6 months since my friend Cynthia Smith passed away. The day she died I planted some wildflower seeds in a little flower garden on the side of m house. I came home from work the other day and I noticed a beautiful sunflower had bloomed. One lone wildflower reminded me of my friend. I am not sure where you are Cynthia but I hope you are in a good place and having fun. I like to think this flower is your little way of telling me that you are. Miss you my friend.

Fourth of July

This year we celebrated the Fourth of July with a friend who has only been an American for a year. Yes, that is right we celebrated it with Toby and the gang in Sanger. Luckily the hubby's work closed up shop rather early so we left quite late on Friday night. It's always nice to be able to get to your destination and then sleep in the next day. Toby joined us the next morning. First task was for the three of us to go shopping with Rosemary, hubby's mom. We had to go to two places to pick out enough food to feed the masses!! hehehe Yep, we needed to get a ton of grub for the numerous people who stop by the Rusca's. It's quite a few people if you stop and think about it. After the shopping was done it was time to get our swim and sun on! But not before we made margaritas! Toby, a non-alcoholic made the drinks and darn it he does a darn fine job for someone who doesn't taste test what he makes. That is okay, I tasted the whole pitcher for him! Af

Has it Been a Year Already?

Last year for the 4th of July we went to a wedding. My girlfriend Susan married her beau on the 4th in a beachside ceremony in Laguna Beach. It was so pretty. Well, happy 1st wedding anniversary Susan and Kevin!!
