Looking Back at the Year

Goodbye 2007! It was a very good year! Married the man of my dreams, In a place that is very much like a dream (Maui). Bought the house of my dreams, And now living in said house with said man and having a grand ole time. Thank you 2007 and thank you higher powers for a great 2007! I look forward to 2008, and what it holds. Be safe tonight and let me be the first to wish each of you, a Happy New Year!

JUNO is the Best Movie

In my opinion, one of the best films of the year was JUNO (other favorite's included: WAITRESS, ONCE, BORN ULTIMATUM and JANE AUSTIN'S BOOK CLUB). Apparently, this film executive was reading this stripper's blog and thought she was totally funny and told her to write a screenplay. She did and this is the screenplay. I liked this film on so many levels and can't wait for it to come out on DVD so I can watch it over and over. Yesterday, Brian and were at The Grove trying to spend some of our Christmas gift cards (and I say try, cuz I found these super cute shoes at Nordie's that were god awful expensive but would have totally match the two dresses I got at Anthropologie - but they were totally out of shoes except for a size 8 1/2 which didn't do me any good - how am I supposed to dress more adult like when Nordie's is out of god awful super cute high heels?) when we ran into some nice gals giving away JUNO T-shirts. So today, Brian and I wear our JUNO t-

I Sew and Write Books

This Christmas I received a Singer sewing machine. I had taken a sewing class in high school so I remebered a little bit about sewing but when I found myself stumbling to thread the machine I turned to the DVD instructions that came with the machine. Brian popped the DVD into the computer and we both took a few lessons. I thought the DVD lessons were really helpful and soon I was a pro at threading again. Te cool thing about the instructions is the visualness of them. I don't know about ou but I hate reading instructions. I will try to figure the thing out myself and believe me I tried but after popping in the DVD I was on my wa in 5 minutes. So after the lessons, I sewed myself some curtains for the den. There were 4 panels to sew. I did the first three and then my little panting puppy of a husband, who couldn't stand that I got a new toy and was playing with it, asked to do the last panel. Let's just say the last panel is a bit different and leave it at that. The cu

Happy Birthday Mother & Merry Christmas Eve

Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday dear Mommy, Happy Birthday to you! Mom- I hope you didn't have to work too much today. Maybe the department store folks let you go home early so you can eat the German Chocolate Cake Grandma K made for you. Did you get your birthday present yet? I am hoping it comes in the mail today. Look for a little square box with Peruvian animals on it. Brian and I got you a little something for your trip to Hawaii in January. We hope you like it. We thought it was pretty and suited you. I just hope you get it today. I spoke to my mom the other day and if you don't know her, she pretty much is the best bargain shopper around. I really only think she works at the department store so she can shop and find good deals (which isn't a bad thing unless you are my dad's pocketbook - hehehe). I must say she gets some really good stuff (designer stuff) for cheap. Anyhoo, she must have gotten her best deal a few days ago.

Cake when you wake up.

Happy Holidays

It's getting close! Only three more days till the big event (depending on if you open presents on Mon or Tues. that is). Brokencandy would like to extend a happy holidays greeting to all readers. Hope you have a wonderful holiday with your family and friends!! The hub and I decided to celebrate Christmas in Los Angeles in our new home. To help us get in the spirit, we decided to go shopping and get some new decorations. When we were in Michigan last month, we visited BRONNERS (the largest Christmas themed store in the world). We decided we wanted our tree to match our living room so we bought everything in teal and somehow our tree took on a peacock theme as well. In addition to teal and peacock items we also have some old fashion ornaments that we bought and of course a few oldies from as years (i.e. like the Christmas Monkey). Everything we bought was in two's so if you come to our house and find the three items that are not in two's, you win a prize!!! One of my fa

My Grandmother, Shirley Jane (1927-2007)

My dear, sweet grandmother, Shirley Jane passed away on Friday, December 14th at 2:00AM in the morning, in the state of Wisconsin. She was born on November 13, 1927 to a school teacher named Mary and an civil engineer, named Edwin, in the medium sized town of Big Rapids, Michigan. She was the last of five children to be born. There were the older sisters: Mary, Mildred, Margaret and a boy Jack, who has passed away at an very early age. Shirley, grew up in Big Rapids staying in the same two-story green house until she went off to nursing school in Lansing, Michigan. She was part of a World War II nursing program at Sparrow Hospital (where I was born). She started working for Michigan State University (where I got my degree) and she meet my Grandpa, Robert, a school teacher, while working at the infirmary. My dad, was born at Sparrow and then the small family of three moved up north to Penneconning. A second child was born to Shirley, a little girl they named Barb. Later they mo

Happy Birthday to My Brother!

Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday dear Matthew, Happy Birthday to you! I so can't believe you are all grown up and married! Wasn't it just the other day we were torturing each other? Wasn't it just the other day that I was taller then you? Wasn't it the other day you were just 7 years old celebrating your birthday at McDonald's? Wasn't it the other day you and I would build great Lego cities? Wasn't it the other day you liked GI Joes and He-Men? I guess it wasn't the other day, it was twenty years ago! Man we are getting old. Anyhoo, have a great birthday and a fun trip to Chicago this weekend. P.S. Mom is sad this is the first year she hasn't gotten to bake you a cake. I guess you really are getting old!

I'm Marked for Twins

Yes, it has started. The Christmas Season that is. It started with the non-stop holiday music on the radio and has moved on to lights and oversized snowman inflatables in people's yards. Throw in a ton of non-stop Macy's sales, vendor holiday parties and Christmas Cards and wham you are smack dab into the season. To help us get in the mood, Brian and I purchased our very first tree and a million teal decorations. After a visit with the BOSGUL last week we stayed up to the wee hours of the morning (for me anyway, normal for Brian) and decorated our tree. I will have to take some photos and post. I must say it came out pretty well and we have been enoying the twinkling lights ever since. This week we received our company holiday present which disappointed a ton of people. Have you ever gotten a gift and you don't know what it does? Well, that's what I got this year in a recycle earth-friendly bag. What made the whole thing funny was that I received an envelope t

Neighbor's Estate Sale

Woke up this morning to find a million people over at my neighbor's house. As some of you know, my neighbor lady passed away a few months ago, so this weekend her family has the daunting task of unloading. I was curious to see the inside of the house and thought this would be a good opportunity to go see it and plus, see if I can find anything for the house. What I found is that the neighbor lady's house isn't as nice as mine currently is. It has an extra bedroom but whoever buys it will have fun (months of fun) fixing it up. I realized that I have just enough fixing up for my needs. Her house needs major renovations to bring it up to date. But it will be cute once somebody does so. I think an Estate Sale is an overpriced garage sale. People were asking how much items cost and I kept hearing $10, $20, $50 and a couple of $100. She had a ton of stuff so I am not sure how this approach is working for them and I didn't see anything worth $100. I saw a lot of peopl
