Fourth of July

This year we celebrated the Fourth of July with a friend who has only been an American for a year. Yes, that is right we celebrated it with Toby and the gang in Sanger. Luckily the hubby's work closed up shop rather early so we left quite late on Friday night. It's always nice to be able to get to your destination and then sleep in the next day. Toby joined us the next morning. First task was for the three of us to go shopping with Rosemary, hubby's mom. We had to go to two places to pick out enough food to feed the masses!! hehehe Yep, we needed to get a ton of grub for the numerous people who stop by the Rusca's. It's quite a few people if you stop and think about it. After the shopping was done it was time to get our swim and sun on! But not before we made margaritas! Toby, a non-alcoholic made the drinks and darn it he does a darn fine job for someone who doesn't taste test what he makes. That is okay, I tasted the whole pitcher for him! After trying the first batch plain we discovered that margaritas are made even better with fresh strawberries from Gilroy (which Toby had stopped to get). Anyhoo, we spent a lot of time over the 4th in the pool. Maybe even more time eating and drinking! We had an explosion of meat. With steak one night, burgers the next and of course, who can go to Sanger without stopping at Chuck Wagon? I hadn't eaten so much beef in a concentration of 3 days! When it came to fireworks we not only saw fireworks from the Rusca's backyard on July 3rd but on the 4th Adam and his family came over and we had a mini fireworks show for the kiddies. Overall, it was another fun weekend in Sanger. We left with a box of peaches and I have been eating peaches ever since! Thanks Sanger and Toby for a good time!

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

My Favorite Gourmet Trucks

As of last night, I have now tried 18 food trucks! Only 60 more to go! My friends, Krueger and Kristy joined me at 55 Degree Wine in Atwar Village to try the always busy Grilled Cheese Truck! I have run into the truck a few times now but something has always prevented me from trying their food. Mostly the really, really long lines!! This time the hour wait wasn't so bad with two girls to gossip with. By the time we got to the front we were ready to execute our food plan. Kristy took lead and placed an order for 3 sandwiches (the brie, the mac-n-cheese and the rib meat) plus the dessert sandwich and some tator tots!!! I was a bit bummed that they didn't have the sandwich I went for, the Harvest sandwich but the 3 sandwiches we got more than made up for everything. I was glad to try this truck with 2 girls because we split the sandiches in 3rds which was awesome because I got to try a variety of their sandwiches. Now I must add the Grilled Cheese Truck to my list of fa...

Surfing Goat Diary

We left the store and headed to the Surfing Goat Diary, again, this was a second trip for us but what was different this time is that we scheduled an hour long tour. Last time we arrive right before closing and were rushed. We spent a fair amount of time there exploring before the tour. We tried their cheesecake, we met the cats and dogs that roamed the place, we played in the playground, we pet and fed the baby goats that were penned up, and pursued the little store. Penny was eager to get her hands on the chocolate goat milk truffles. I must admit they did look good. I had my eyes on a t-shirt and a mug. Our tour started at 3:30pm that day and we met all the goats and learned all about the farm. But the most exciting part of the tour was getting the opportunity to milk the goats. Penny was quite a good milker. A friend later reminded me that Penny was breastfed (wink, wink). By the time the tour ended we were extremely hot. Maui was hot but also humid. We were ready to...
