A Mom

Sometimes I just have to pinch myself when I think at the end of the year, I am going to be somebody's mom. I can't even believe I am old enough to be a mom. But it's true, I am old enough and in fact, I am considered advanced maternal age. If you don't know what that means, it's term applied to any lady 35 and over. For years and years, I used to be scared of having kids. I have never disliked kids, always thought they were cute but I wasn't sure I could take of one. It's a lot of responsibility you know. It's a big job you know, not one to be half assed. I see a lot of parents who probably don't take the word responsibility to heart as much as I do. For 18 years (and pretty much all their life if you really think about it), someone is going to rely on me, to feed them, cloth them, school them, teach them right from wrongs, and oh yeah, and love them and cherish them. It's a pretty hard gig if you think about it. I kept waiting fo...

An End of An Era

ATTENTION ATTENTION ATTENTION Brokencandy's Domain Time is Coming to An End!!! What does that mean? It means Brokencandy, the www, will be no more. Hubby is letting the domain run out and I am okay with that. I am not sure when it will happen but one day you might click on it and get nothing. If you want to continue to follow along with hubby's and I's adventures you can find this same exact blog at the following address: http://ramblingsofacrazywoman.blogspot.com/ Really it was there all along but the Brokencandy site was directing traffic here. It been a good run Brokencandy! I will miss you when you leave. Moving forward onto my rambling's hosted by BLOGGER.

A Cheesey-Winey Party

To kick off Summer 2011, hubby and I thought we'd throw a grilled cheese party accompanied by some red wine. Below is the cheese. But wait isn't that mac and cheese? One of hubbers award winning sandwiches, as voted by his co-workers, is the mac n cheese, with more cheese on Hawaiian bread sandwich. To top it off its panini'd. In addition to the mac n cheese delight he is making a fried chicken and waffle with maple cheese sammi. He is making a vanilla bean with cheese sami topped with blackberry same. Then he is making a regular cheese and pulled pork sami. It should make for a gassy evening. Did I mention that we are also having s'mores by the firepit? Can't wait to dig in tomorrow!

Viacom Community Day!

Every year for the last 16 years Viacom has sponsored Viacom Community Day. Employees can volunteer to do some community service. The company makes T-Shirts, they offer breakfast, snacks and a wrap party. But really the fun part is the community service. I have worked there since 2006 and this was the first year I was able to participate because usually we are in the middle of blockbuster season meaning we are too busy to break for this event. This year I through caution to the wind and told my new boss I was participating. Luckily he didn't disagree so, yesterday, I was able to participate for the very first time and I am so glad I did. I had so much fun and not to mention the experience felt really good. Maybe I should do more community service, more often? hum? Anyhoo, Viacom Community day not only happens at the Hollywood Studio but at our offices around the world. Since everyone was participating it was a little easier to leave my work behind for a few hour...

We Did It!

I think our Disney craze is complete. This past weekend hubby and I bought the super deluxe premium passes to both Disneyland and Disney World. Now we can go to the parks 365 days of the this coming year! When we tell people about our purchase the first question they always ask is, "Wasn't that expensive?" To be honest, it was however, here is why we did it. We did it to save money. With our 6 days/7 nights Disney World vacation planned it would have cost about $320 per person for a 6 day park hopper ticket. And since we have been going to Disneyland every weekend we have been pondering the thought of buying an annual pass for Disneyland which goes for about $460 per person. When you add those two figures together its more than what we paid. Add in a screw up by Costco, cuz we bought some tickets to upgrade to our pass thus getting $100 gift certificates for free from Costco, we made out pretty good in the deal. This past weekend we used our passes fo...

Westside Friends

After spending the morning and afternoon at Disneyland we came home and took a big nap. We needed to rest up before we drove South to Culver City to meet up with Caroline for dinner. We thought we were meeting Caroline and Minh for dinner (we didn't understand why we were meeting them in Culver City because they live near us) but we ended up meeting up with Caroline (no Minh), Matthew, Jung, Jon, and Danielle. It was a surprise but a good one. The seven us us had a great time catching up at Waterloo & City, a British Gastropub. Lots of beer and some pizza's later, Caroline and the 81st Street boys got all caught up. I told Caroline she should surprise me more often. It was a nice evening.

Getting Ready for Disney

This past Christmas, I gave my parents and my brother's family a Disney goodie bag in preparation of our Reasner Family Disney Vacation in May. My mother-in-law was able to supply a Disney hat for William or rather, Prince William and I put it in their bag. Apparently my brother and his wife have been keeping the goodie bag in their bedroom for safe keeping for the trip and my little nephew who is a year and a half, who has been super curious lately, found the bag and the hat, that just so happens to fit his head. Here is a picture my brother took of him in his Disney hat. Isn't he so cute?
