Our New Bull Dog Friend

So yesterday's party was sooo much fun! We met a ton a great people and this sweet, cuddly bulldog called Coconut. I rarely meet a bulldog I like but this one changed my mind. This 11-year-old doggie didn't move around much. Instead he liked to sit next to the food table hoping to get a little bbq. So the hub and I were bad and gave him a little pulled pork. He just gobbled it up. It's dogs like these that make me want to have a dog. We love you Coconut!

Labor Day Parties

It's not labor day without parties. Today we have a pool/bbq party up in the Hollywood Hills at one of my vendors houses. A few girlfriends are tagging along w/ us. Tomorrow we have a beach party until 4pm and then another BBQ w/ friends we meet at a bowling alley a few years ago, in the evening. Monday the day of labor I am sure we'll pull out our bbq and throw some meat on! So sad this is the last weekend of summer! boo

What is a Stable Job?

Labor Day is the celebration of the value and dignity of work, and its role in the American way of life. As the Industrial Revolution took hold of the nation, the average American in the late 1800s worked 12-hour days, seven days a week in order to make a basic living. Children were also working, as they provided cheap labor to employers and laws against child labor were not strongly enforced. With the long hours and terrible working conditions, American unions became more prominent and voiced their demands for a better way of life. On Tuesday September 5, 1882, 10,000 workers marched from city hall to Union Square in New York City, holding the first-ever Labor Day parade. Participants took an upaid day-off to honor the workers of America, as well as vocalize issues they had with employers. As years passed, more states began to hold these parades, but Congress would not legalize the holiday until 12 years later. Just in case you guys forgot why we have this national holiday I just wante...

The Lost Art of Letter Writing

This week I was the recepient of two postcards. In the age of e-mailing and blogging this is a rare occurrrance. It's not that people don't write anymore it's just they are doing it in different forms and I think in less personal forms. It's kinda sad when you think about it. For me, there is nothing better then getting a hand written letter in the mail because it means someone was specifically thinking about you. Writing a letter these days takes a lot of effort when GMail is so near. I mean a person has to pick out stationary (if they even have any on hand), find time to sit down and compose a letter (and who has a spare half hour these days?), find or buy a stamp and actually walk the letter to the mailbox. With all this effort, no wonder people email these days! My girlfriend Becky and I joke that the United States Postal Service has become "Snail Mail." Most times before a letter gets to us these days we already know the information inside ...

Summer is Over

There is only one week left until Labor Day and I can't help but be sad about it because it means summer is over. Yes, even in sunny California I still feel the seasons change, granted it is not as drastic from changing from sun to snow but the season changes from fires to mudslides none-the-less. As far as summers go, the weather this summer has been nothing but pleasant. I can't remember complaining about needing air conditioning, as much as I did last year. Luckily our ceiling fans were able to do the job of keeping us cool and if the fans can keep us cool it must have been a good summer in California! Maybe after we finishing our landscaping project we can investigate central air/heat. Anyhoo, if I was bored in July I certainly wasn't in August! August started out with my Malibu birthday party (the party was so exclusive that only Brian was on the guest list!) . And then, I spent the week after my birthday trimming bushes, picking out stones and pavers an...

Landscaping Our Backyard

Our 1939 backyard is getting a little face lift! Complete with trimmed back trees, two different sized pavers, gold stones, railroad ties and a soon-to-be built purgula. This is what we got done this weekend. It takes a lot of work to move dirt around! Anyone want to help? We have tons more to do! 1LByN0TqOk/SKDC3xvP82I/AAAAAAAAAOQ/Z9SQzwoDTzk/s200/IMGP1240.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5233397030504624994" />

On Friday night, we had some friends over for a little cocktail party but we ended up celebrating two wedding engagements! I guess there is a lot of love connections happening in the world right now! Both Mindy and Susan got engaged at the beach! Mindy at Lake Superior, two weeks ago and Susie, in Florida, over Memorial Day. Both got big rocks!!!! The happy brides to be and their big rocks! Brian can't believe how big Mindy's rock is! Lisa is next!!!! She has been going steady with this nice guy, Tim for the past two months!!!

Back to the Beach

So for my 33rd birthday I wanted to keep it low key, meaning, just me and my honey. So the hub took me to the beach! I haven't been to a California beach, in like, forever! We packed a picnic lunch and rubbed 50 SPF suntan lotion all over ourselves (we learned from Vegas) and headed to the shores. Boy! Was it ever nice to sleep with the sounds of the ocean nearby! Besides sleeping, Brian prepared a birthday surprise for me. See below. Brian's birthday surprise. For my birthday present this year, Brian gave me 5 choices. I had 5 envelopes to open at the beach. Each envelope came with a mini gift, either a pair of sunglasses (because I really wanted sunglasses as my only pair broke last week) or a lottery scratcher. After opening all 5 envelopes, I had the choice of picking from 5 really great gifts!! 1.) A year long membership to Burke Williams Spa (nice) 2.) A flat screen TV for our bedroom (been wanting to watch TV in bed) 3.) Maid services for a year (this wou...

Swing Vote

Yes, I am writing a blog about the new Kevin Costner movie. You know, he makes one movie called WaterWorld, which by the way was a success commercially even if the idea wasn't and he is a target for making crap movies. He makes as many crap movies as the next guy so I say what's the big deal? Anyhoo, I have always liked Kevin Costner. He seems like a down-to-earth guy. Somebody you could hang out with and have a beer with in real life. He is one person, if I saw at a wedding, I wouldn't be afraid to ask for a dance. With that being said, when I got free screening tickets to "Swing Vote" I wanted to see what Kevin was up to. I saw the trailer a while back and I was thinking that perhaps this might be another "Tin Cup" but since the tickets were free I decided it was worth my time to go see this film...even if it turned out to be a "Tin Cup." I have been watching action heroes all summer and just wanted to see a good cheesy, popcorn flick...
