March 1st

We are inching closer to the day our lives turned upside down (March 13, 2020). In 13 days it will have been a year since the US declared a National Health Emergency.  Living through a global pandemic wasn’t on anyone’s mind, I don’t think, except Bill Gates, who warned for years this was coming. It’s clear now that we were underprepared. It’s clear now that leadership matters. It’s clear now that masks work.

I’m hearing from people I haven’t heard from in a while and it’s been interesting to see how everything has affected people. Mostly, people are out of work. The entertainment industry, especially people in theatrical were hit hard.  Some are dealing with the after effects of having Covid. Some lost a person. Some feel completely isolated. Some are plain worn out from working and do distance learning.  Everyone is in a state of uncertainty.

When will I get the vaccine? Will it work? Is it okay to send my kids back to school? Is it okay to see friends who got vaccinated? Is it okay to see more friends? When can I see my family?

So many questions. It feels like things are heading back to normal but are they? We are learning how to live and deal with this. Will things ever be normal? 500,000 people died from this beast.  You think you didn’t know anyone who had it but then people slowly reveal they did have it and they tell you their story.  So much has happened that I’m not sure we can return to normal. Maybe keep moving forward but normal still seems far off.

It’s March 1st, wow, just wow! People want it to be over but I feel there is still a long way to go. So I stay here uncertain and wonder what is the next turn?

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

Surfing Goat Diary

We left the store and headed to the Surfing Goat Diary, again, this was a second trip for us but what was different this time is that we scheduled an hour long tour. Last time we arrive right before closing and were rushed. We spent a fair amount of time there exploring before the tour. We tried their cheesecake, we met the cats and dogs that roamed the place, we played in the playground, we pet and fed the baby goats that were penned up, and pursued the little store. Penny was eager to get her hands on the chocolate goat milk truffles. I must admit they did look good. I had my eyes on a t-shirt and a mug. Our tour started at 3:30pm that day and we met all the goats and learned all about the farm. But the most exciting part of the tour was getting the opportunity to milk the goats. Penny was quite a good milker. A friend later reminded me that Penny was breastfed (wink, wink). By the time the tour ended we were extremely hot. Maui was hot but also humid. We were ready to...

Vaccine Part 1

As a little girl I would look on my mom’s arm and wonder why she had such a weird mark near her shoulder. A few days ago, as the warm solution penetrated my bloodstream, I started to cry remembering my mom’s mark. The nurse asked me if I was okay and I told her I was so incredibly happy. As a diabetic I was stressed never knowing if I was doing enough to avoid it but also, keeping some semblance of life in doing outdoor things. I cried because I am incredibly grateful to the SCIENCE that made this possible in only a year. Less time for me to worry about my only kiddo should the worse happen.  If ur on the fence...I’ve worked in entertainment for over 20 years and I’ve seen first hand how easy celebrities influence the public.  Some do good and others well...I’m happy to have a little bit of the gracious Dolly Parton with me.  Scientists on the other hand, very rarely get the recognition for their years of study, years of research and expertise contributing to (wo)mankind....
