Galaxy's Edge

Hubs and I visited STAR WARS: Galaxy's Edge on Saturday, June 1st at Disneyland and it was an amazing experience!   We gave up our annual passes back in February because they didn't offer a renewal discount and the prices had been raised a lot.   Since we have gone for years and years and the park was being remodeled and Star Wars was due to bring in a massive crowd we let them expire.  But when reservations came up to visit the park from May 31st to June 23rd well, hubs got up and got in the virtual line and at 10:12am a window popped up on the computer and let me reserve tickets.   It was so easily I opened up a window for me and made reservations.

My heart sank when I learned that I had accidentally made reservations for 1 person only.  When I logged in you were supposed to enter the guests names but I didn't see one.  Apparently, there was a technical glitch for some people and that button was missing.  I am not sure what happened for me but when we called Guest Relations they said sorry but we can only add one person to each reservation.

So that is how kiddo went to spend the day with her friend,  while Mom and Dad had a fun day at Disneyland.  Don't worry, she had a great time and didn't get upset about Star Wars.  She went to Spanish Class, Gymnastics and Basketball with her friend and apparently was the best big sister and cheerleader.

I was expecting the park to be crazy but it was actually empty.   We got on a ton of rides because there was no wait or very little wait.   We even stopped for a watermelon julep and beignets because it wasn't crazy.  I think people thought it would be crazy and decided to stay away.   Whatever it was, it was heavenly.   We rode rides and hung out with friends, Caroline and Minh until it was our time to go in.

We got wristbands from Star Wars Launch Bay and then told to come back to the holding pen outside of Hungry Bear restaurant.  We walked over there and the guy said trust us just come back closer to the time and not wait.  So we went and rode Haunted Mansion.  We came back and joined the holding pen and on the dot we were let into Batuu on Galaxy's Edge.   While we were waiting an older looking Chewbacca character came to greet people and took pictures with hubs.   It was an exciting start.  We immediately spotted the specially made Coca Cola bottles coke made just for Batuu.

As we walked in as a group we saw many exciting things.  Honestly, I was torn between taking a picture of what I saw and just experiencing it.    Our main goal was to visit Oga's Cantina and get First Edition mugs.  But when we arrived the line was closed off and they told us to come back later.  So we went and rode the Millennium Falcon ride which only took 20 minutes to cue for.

The ride was unlike anything I had ever experience and it didn't make me dizzy like the Harry Potter ride or Star Tours.   Basically, 6 people rose in a ship.   2 by 2 given jobs of Pilot, Gunner and Engineer and you were given a color coded card to hold as you waited in a small group to board your ship.  We would ride it twice that day and the only thing we didn't get to do was pilot it because two little girls were given that job.   The entire line to wait and walk through was decorated. So it was interesting to look at all the details as you moved forward.  It was like one day I woke up and I was inside the movie of Star Wars experiencing everything I had only seen for years in the movie.  It was super cool walking through the Falcon's hallways and pushing buttons inside the spaceship.   It was fun experiencing it with other people.  Although the little girls did tend to crash our ride a lot. The ride lasted about 6 minutes.

We left the ride and checked on the Cantina line and luckily they let us in but closed it 5 minutes later.   While I waited hubs walked around and found the stand with Blue and Green Milk, bought kettle corn from the Black Spire Outpost Market at Kat Saka's Kettle Corn Shop and bought a delicious tasting wrap from Ronto's Roasters.  The wait was about 45 minutes.  We were warned that you get what you get when you get inside aka no guaranteed seating but when we entered we were seated at a big table and 6 others joined us.  We quickly introduced ourselves and found out that they were all lawyer friends who worked at the same firm.  They were younger than us.

Our waiter had probably worked too many hours this week so he wasn't the friendliest but he did get us menus and drinks as soon as he could but it was still a process.  We had 45 minutes to finish 2 drinks maximum.  Hubs ordered a beer flight which came in a collectible ceramic bowl thing and I ordered the other mug that hubs wanted.    Both drinks were good tasting and we had fun drinking the drinks and socializing.  We didn't get to order a second drink but our collectible mugs already cost a lot so we were fine with that. It was fun walking around the well themed bar and seeing the robot DJ songs.

After Oga's we walked around and went into shops and checked out the shops in the market place.  We checked in on the light saber line which was another popular experience but reservations for it were full which was okay with us because we didn't want to spend $200 on a light saber.   Although our friend Minh later told us it was a cool experience.

The land was just spectacular with space themed bathrooms, drink fountains, food productions, merchandising and I heard that they were selling special gift cards that you could use within the land. Every time you purchased something they asked if you would like to use your "credits." The stuffed animals were exotic, everything was soo cool and very expensive.  A sample patch cost $10-$20.  Disney is definitely making bank off all visitors to Batuu.   Glad I bought some stocks 2 months ago!

After shopping we rode the falcon again and then we stopped to have dinner in Docking Bay 7.   We got a chicken type salad and fake meat loaf.  The food was pretty tasty for theme park food and again they kept everything "in character" with special forks and fancy food containers.

We actually stayed a bit past our 6pm exit time. We wanted to see if anyone would say anything to us.  They didn't and we finally left about 6:30pm as we got to exit through the main gate this time and took pictures with photo ops they had for the opening.

We have another reservation on Father's Day but it is only for me and kiddo and ironically, not for Dad.   I think we are going to let it go though as we had to pay $300 for two one-off tickets for hubs and I to go in.   Plus, the land still needs to open up another ride so I think we will wait for a bit.

The land is super impressive, the Disney Imagineers outdid themselves!   I thought Universal's Harry Potter world was amazing and this is just so much better.  I am glad this competition is making each park stay on top of their game.

I must say, I can't wait to return but for now just letting the memories savor in my head. It will be fun to take P one day!

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of
