Fourth of July - Pismo Beach Trip

P awoke at 4am the day of our road trip to Pismo Beach and she said her tummy ached.  I thought she was just hungry and gave her some food.   She still complained so I gave her some bubbly and then she threw up.  When we awoke she was still not feeling well.  One problem though, we had a non-refundable hotel room and it was really expensive.   So even though it was hard we loaded the car up and added our sick child.  The first 45 minutes were horrible.  It didn't look like it was going to be a great trip.  But then P fell asleep for the remainder of the trip.   And by some miracle when she woke up she felt better and was able to eat without throwing up!  I am not sure what she had but was grateful the bug went away when we arrived at our destination.

Five years prior, Penny was 7 months old when we took her and Moses to Pismo Beach for the Fourth of July.  The thing I remember about that trip was Hub's shaved head!  He was basically bald! Since our neighborhood has turned into a war zone with fireworks for months leading up to and after the 4th we decided to spare our good buddy some pain and get the heck out of town. Plus, we wanted to spend time with Mo cuz, he can't go to Disneyland so he deserves a Disneyland trip of his own. From the picture below you can see there were a to of big smiles on Moses' face the entire trip.

I like having traditions and I like the Central Coast a lot so it was back to Pismo for us.   It was new to P and with us doing so many new things with Mo, it was almost new to Mom and Dad too.  It reminds me of the small town beach vacations I took with my family when I was a kid.

Poor Moses, never gets to go with us so we planned this trip especially for him.  We selected a dog-friendly hotel (SeaCreast Oceanfront Resort) so we could take our buddy with him.

Poor P didn't feel good at the start of our trip. Mo kept her company.

I think we were put in the same room we stayed in when P was a baby.

The ocean!  This was the strip of beach in front of the hotel.

Our family of four.

P took this picture. Note the finger.

Daddy and P built a sandcastle.

It was a long day. She slept well that night.

Moses and P looking out the window. Wanting to explore.

P loves the beach as much as me!

Flying a kite at Avila Beach

P had a good time with Dad getting this butterfly into flight.

A double feature at San Luis Obispo's Sunset Drive In.

We didn't go to the lobby but we did grab some treats at a CVS.

Photoshoot with dad before the show.

Everybody in bed!

Visited San Luis Obispo's Children Museum.  P met a little girl her age and we ended up going through the tiny museum with her.

The museum was perfect for her age.  A lot of age appropriate exhibits for 5-year-olds.

Moses enjoyed his vacation.  He went everywhere with us!   Here he is at a restaurant along
Morro Bay.

We discovered this dog friendly place and had some great seafood, well, I did.  Hubs doesn't like seafood but he still enjoyed his food.

P enjoying the live corny music.  The singer wasn't that well, talented but it was still a festive place to sit and relax and enjoy food.

P and I checked out the world's smallest aquarium.  We finished the tiny room and P asked when we were going into the next part.  There was no next part.  We later heard on our boat cruise someone donated $16 million dollars to build a brand new aquarium.   Hubs had gone in when he was a little kid and warned us that it was small.   It was literally one room of seals. And one room of fish.  It had these super old tanks and these eels from 1983.   The tanks were something out of the TV show LOST.

You can't come to Morro Bay and not do one of these photo ops.  You just can't!

Always a favorite place to visit, The Shell Shop.   P wanted an ice cream cone so she couldn't go in to The Shell Shop with it.  Dad and Moses met up with us and the 3 of them sat outside waiting while I looked around.  Don't worry, P got to go in and we both picked out a handful of shells to take home.  I put mine in a decorative bowl by my bed and P made a little bowl with sand and made a little sea life scene.   I love that store. I bought a ton of shells there for my Maui Wedding years ago.

So I researched and researched to find things we could do with Moses and this Tiki Boat Ride came up so we booked 4 tickets on a tiki boat cruise around the bay.  It turned out to be super fun!  The guide was awesome and so were the tiki drinks!  Dark n Stormy is my new favorite!

P and I sat on one side of the boat.

P looking out over the bay. It was a beautiful sunny, non-cloudy day.  The guide said 99% of the time its overcast so today was special.

Moses hovered under dad's legs.  He was a little nervous at first.

I declined a drink but Dad didn't and after a taste I think I ended up drinking half as
it was so well mixed!

Moses finding his groove on the boat.

We saw Sea Lions and Sea Otters.  All the females were laying out in this dock and there was one annoying make who made so much noise. The females thought he was annoying to and kept swatting at him to stay away.  He just wanted to get it on with one of them and none of them were having any of it. It was pretty funny.

Morro Bay's Famous Clam Chowder.  We were so exhausted after a long day.   So P and I rested and Dad went out to get us some dinner.  He pre-ordered via Yelp so he didn't have to wait in the long line at the famous restaurant that sells this chowder.  He brought it back and boy, did it ever hit the spot!

P dressed up as a fire fighter at the Children's Museum.

On the Fourth of July, Pismo Beach was overcast.  We spend the morning at the beach.

Moses ended up having quite the adventure.  He loved running off leash.  His confidence went way up that morning and he thought he would jump into a puddle but it was a big sink hole of water!   Dad had to jump in and get him out.  Then dad went back to investigate and he ended up falling in and he said the water was over his head!!!  These boys!

Can't go to Pismo without visiting Penny's All American Cafe.  I think you know why.

Moses after his sink hole adventure.   He came over and snuggled with me and progressed to get the entire beach blanket wet!

Big chess piece in the town of Morro Bay.

Picture hubby took when he was getting our food. This is the hotel nears ours. We wondered if they had a tiki bar but they don't.

Dad's photoshoot with P at the beach in Pismo.

My little mermaid.

Despite the trip starting out with one sick little girl, it ended up being a very fun 4 days on the Central Coast.   Love my little family and spending time with them.

Buffalo Wild Wings

When I was going to Michigan State University, my friends and I would always go to BW3's for hot wings. They always had a variety of flavored wings from Honey BBQ to steaming hot, hot, death wings. Wings and a beer were just the thing to satisfy a busy student's appetite. When we frequented BW3's it was a dive bar but by the time my brother graduated from MSU they swapped locations for a building across the street and turned the name to Buffalo Wild Wings and the restaurant became more like a chain thing. Well, color me shocked the other day when we went to the movies and I saw a Buffalo Wild Wings being built in the AMC Burbank 16 complex. Apparently, after looking on their website they are one of the fastest top 10 chains in the US. So of course I had to introduce the hubby to one of my favorite college treats. I don't think he is so much a fan of chicken wings so we got boneless chicken wings a.k.a. tasty little chicken chunks in two of the flavored sauc...

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

The Lost Art of Letter Writing

This week I was the recepient of two postcards. In the age of e-mailing and blogging this is a rare occurrrance. It's not that people don't write anymore it's just they are doing it in different forms and I think in less personal forms. It's kinda sad when you think about it. For me, there is nothing better then getting a hand written letter in the mail because it means someone was specifically thinking about you. Writing a letter these days takes a lot of effort when GMail is so near. I mean a person has to pick out stationary (if they even have any on hand), find time to sit down and compose a letter (and who has a spare half hour these days?), find or buy a stamp and actually walk the letter to the mailbox. With all this effort, no wonder people email these days! My girlfriend Becky and I joke that the United States Postal Service has become "Snail Mail." Most times before a letter gets to us these days we already know the information inside ...
