The Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

Wasn't sure we were going to get a tree this year because we are going to be going on a big trip over the holidays but alas, we have an almost 5-year-old and we could deprive her of a Christmas tree so we got one, albeit a small one and you know what? Having a small tree was less hassle and more fun than a big tree!

After Thanksgiving had past I gave the green-light for Christmas to begin in our house. Although apparently, all the stores and malls got green-lighted the hour after Halloween ended. Since we are going on a trip we might as well get it up and get the house decorated in advance so we can enjoy it. So that is what we did.

Instead of doing some elaborate tree lot thing we just headed down to the lot in Target and because it was cold (for California) that night we basically popped in and popped out. It literally took like 10 minutes for us to go in, pick something out and for them to rope it to our car. We brought it home and hooked it up to our stand in a matter of 5 minutes.

Hubs brought it in the house and for once there wasn't a million pine needles strewn across the floor all throughout the house. There were some but not a ton. We decorated our tree fairly quickly too. Miss P is at an age where the entire concept of Christmas and all holidays completely and totally excite her. She loved helping me get the holiday bins out and loved asking me where to place things in our house. She loved decorating the tree even more!

I had to set aside my anal retentiveness and remind myself that not everything had to be perfect (I didn't have to slightly adjust a few things though...as I just couldn't help it). I do have to admit that all the Christmas-ing has been alleviating my poor post-election mood. So this event which I didn't even want to do this year turned out to be a magical night!

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

Surfing Goat Diary

We left the store and headed to the Surfing Goat Diary, again, this was a second trip for us but what was different this time is that we scheduled an hour long tour. Last time we arrive right before closing and were rushed. We spent a fair amount of time there exploring before the tour. We tried their cheesecake, we met the cats and dogs that roamed the place, we played in the playground, we pet and fed the baby goats that were penned up, and pursued the little store. Penny was eager to get her hands on the chocolate goat milk truffles. I must admit they did look good. I had my eyes on a t-shirt and a mug. Our tour started at 3:30pm that day and we met all the goats and learned all about the farm. But the most exciting part of the tour was getting the opportunity to milk the goats. Penny was quite a good milker. A friend later reminded me that Penny was breastfed (wink, wink). By the time the tour ended we were extremely hot. Maui was hot but also humid. We were ready to...

Vaccine Part 1

As a little girl I would look on my mom’s arm and wonder why she had such a weird mark near her shoulder. A few days ago, as the warm solution penetrated my bloodstream, I started to cry remembering my mom’s mark. The nurse asked me if I was okay and I told her I was so incredibly happy. As a diabetic I was stressed never knowing if I was doing enough to avoid it but also, keeping some semblance of life in doing outdoor things. I cried because I am incredibly grateful to the SCIENCE that made this possible in only a year. Less time for me to worry about my only kiddo should the worse happen.  If ur on the fence...I’ve worked in entertainment for over 20 years and I’ve seen first hand how easy celebrities influence the public.  Some do good and others well...I’m happy to have a little bit of the gracious Dolly Parton with me.  Scientists on the other hand, very rarely get the recognition for their years of study, years of research and expertise contributing to (wo)mankind....
