On the actual day of my birth I woke up to find myself in San Diego. We hopped in the car and headed to Coronado Island for the day. I was in Maui last year so it is only fitting that I would be on another island for my birthday. We grabbed breakfast at Cafe 1134. Just had some breakfast sandwiches and ice tea. Afterward we walked up and down main street. Got some candy for Penny at the Candy shop and a little piece of Coronado Island Crunch. We checked out the local playground which was pretty cool. Miss P had fun playing on all the equipment and swinging. Then we walked back through town and made it to The Coronado Hotel. I would have liked to stay there but it is a large tourist trap and it was booked not to mention totally expensive. So we took up residence on their beach instead. Penny had fun going in the water and making sand castles with dad. I took her for a walk on the beach and we collected seashells. After several hours in the sun we walked around the property and came upon an ice cream shop. Of course, we had to get some!!! I had to use the ladies bathroom so I took the opportunity to look inside the hotel which was really really dark inside. The hotel is made out of wood. It sort of reminded me of the Grand Hotel on Mackinaw Island. After walking around and finishing our ice cream we walked back through town. Miss P fell asleep so Mommy and Daddy took that as an opportunity to stop and have an appetizer (a bree, apples and present roll thing) and some ice teas at one of the restaurants on the strip. After Penny woke up we drove over to Little Italy and went to Filippe's for dinner. It was another suggestion on this Mommy Blogger site for things to do in Coronado. It definitely was an interesting place with wine bottles hanging from the ceiling. It was a little hard to find as I didn't know you had to walk through a market to get to the restaurant. We eventually got it and settled in. A friendly waitress took our order, a pepperoni and sausage pizza and a side of pasta with butter. We all dug in and enjoyed the bread and pasta. A ton carbs later we were done and as we headed out the door we were glad we had come early because the line was out the door and down the street! We went back back to the hotel and had to say good-bye to hubs as he had to take the train back to LA to go to work. Meanwhile, Mommy and Miss P stayed for an extra two days.
As a little girl I would look on my mom’s arm and wonder why she had such a weird mark near her shoulder. A few days ago, as the warm solution penetrated my bloodstream, I started to cry remembering my mom’s mark. The nurse asked me if I was okay and I told her I was so incredibly happy. As a diabetic I was stressed never knowing if I was doing enough to avoid it but also, keeping some semblance of life in doing outdoor things. I cried because I am incredibly grateful to the SCIENCE that made this possible in only a year. Less time for me to worry about my only kiddo should the worse happen. If ur on the fence...I’ve worked in entertainment for over 20 years and I’ve seen first hand how easy celebrities influence the public. Some do good and others well...I’m happy to have a little bit of the gracious Dolly Parton with me. Scientists on the other hand, very rarely get the recognition for their years of study, years of research and expertise contributing to (wo)mankind....
