If you are a mom living in a big city, like LA there are a ton of good online resources to use if you are in need of something to keep the kiddos entertained. When I was laid off in 2013 I freaked out because I didn't know what I was going to do with my daughter all day. As I settled in I found quite a few resources online for not only support but for activities. One of those websites is Red Tricycle. They collect all the events going on in major big cities across the US and put them in a daily calendar for each city that they publish online each day. All I need to do is log on and see what adventures the city has waiting for me that day. Not only do they have the calendar but they publish a ton of stories about "Things to Do" in various LA cities. It's an amazing resource that I have continued to use since I found it. Another great Mommy resource is the blog "Scary Mommy" which publishes all kinds of relatable mommy stories. This summer, while I have been working from home I have been using Red Tricycle to find cool things to do with Miss P. For instance, one day a week we have been going to the downtown cinema to see old children movies for a $1. You can't beat a buck for two hours of entertainment! I discovered that they validate parking from 9am to 3pm which is plenty of time to explore a bit downtown after the movie. We discovered a really awesome park and I introduced Miss P to picnics. She had pretending to have picnics with her dollies at home and I asked her if she would like to go on a real one. She was so excited that she actually ate the sandwich I made for her. The girl rarely eats any sandwiches in the past. However, if you add picnicking in all of the sudden sandwiches are cool to eat especially Nutella sandwiches on multigrain bread aka chocolate sandwiches. I've tried telling her how good peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are but the girl does not like jelly nor does she like missing her food too much. The park we have been visiting is really awesome. They have the green-est grass I've seen in drought ridden LA. The playground is awesome and there is always nannies there with children Miss P's age to play with. We usually eat our lunch and then play for an hour an half. We did forgo the picnic the other day and had lunch at Smashburger. And we have walked the side streets close to the park. Downtown LA has really changed since I moved here 18 years ago. Its suddenly hip and popular. The doom and gloom has been replaced by Targets, Ralphs, and modern apartments and condo. Add in all the entertainment that was already downtown and revitalized parks and restaurants you suddenly have a real big city.
Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...
