Today we ventured out of Lahaina not quite sure where we were going. We thought we would go to see the crater but when Waze said it would take 3 hours to get get to we ditched that plan. We drove around aimlessly but then we realized we were near I'ao Valley, a placed I had booked marked as cool to go to. I really didn't we would have time to visit but since we were in the area we decided to check it out. It turned out to be really awesome and the perfect activity to fill the time slot we had for this morning. With beautiful views and fun dips in a creek it's a perfect spot to spend an hour or two. The first thing we did was climb the steps to the top. We were rewarded with this pretty view. After looking around and taking a few pictures we started to wander around other pathways. We found a pathway that was along a creek. We found a few places that you could get in an swim. Of course, Penny wanted to go in so Dad helped her amongst the rocks but she soon found out the water was cold! Unlike the ocean. We meet a family from Hawaii who was nice enough to share some toys but Penny didn't stay in too long. We found a second spot and again Penny investigated but we didn't stay too long.
After the second dip we had seen pretty much everything. There was one more pathway to discover but there was a sign that said the path was closed. We were out of time anyway so we hopped in our car. Of course, the first thing out of Penny's mouth was "I'm Hun-gee." I spied a McD's so we stopped to get her a hamburger and fries. She loved it and devoured the sandwich quickly. She quickly feel asleep and by the time we got back to the Lahaina area she was sleeping. Hubs and I took that as our cue to get some lunch ourselves so we stopped at Leoda's Kitchen and Pie Shop which was located next to the Olowalu General Store.
Everything looked so good it was hard to know what to order. I got a spicy tuna sandwich on homemade bread and hubs got a chicken pot pie that had a ton of veggies in it. We gobbled everything up and washed it down with the best homemade ice tea which they served in the cutest bottles. When we came in we spied the pie display and who can take a look at that without ordering? Not us. We got a Peanut Butter Pie and a Chocolate Macadamia Nut Creme Pie. Both more delicious than the next. When Penny woke up at the hotel she was quick to find the pie box and finish off the Chocolate Pie. Definitely, a place to put on our return to list for the next trip.
We got back to the hotel around 1pm and we did a bit of resting before we started having to get ready for the wedding.
As a little girl I would look on my mom’s arm and wonder why she had such a weird mark near her shoulder. A few days ago, as the warm solution penetrated my bloodstream, I started to cry remembering my mom’s mark. The nurse asked me if I was okay and I told her I was so incredibly happy. As a diabetic I was stressed never knowing if I was doing enough to avoid it but also, keeping some semblance of life in doing outdoor things. I cried because I am incredibly grateful to the SCIENCE that made this possible in only a year. Less time for me to worry about my only kiddo should the worse happen. If ur on the fence...I’ve worked in entertainment for over 20 years and I’ve seen first hand how easy celebrities influence the public. Some do good and others well...I’m happy to have a little bit of the gracious Dolly Parton with me. Scientists on the other hand, very rarely get the recognition for their years of study, years of research and expertise contributing to (wo)mankind....
