Pre-vacation I did a lot of Yelping as I wanted to find new places to eat and new places to visit while on Maui. My searching for kid friendly activities lead me to look at the Lahaina Animal Farm. It would seem that they just opened in February and according to the many 5-star reviews a can't miss for small children. So I put it on our schedule as a place to see. After breakfast at The Gazebo we drove back in the opposite direction and started up a bit of a hill. When we got to the top we found a beautiful view of the ocean and we found the farm. I was quite impressed with the signage. With all the trouble I had in Upcountry I certainly appreciated the signage to get to this location. We drove in and again followed the signs "Park Here" and "Sign In Here." Penny immediately found some bunnies to play with as we waited for 9am to arrive. Around that time a woman headed over to the "Sign In Here" tent. She immediately began taking tickets or finding tickets people had bought. She was very friendly. After paying and taking care of the other families she gave the children juice and started to talk about the farm and who see was. She started with the bees, then the donkeys, goats, and horses. I really liked the explanation of everything. The children were able to get up close with the animals and feed them. Not just pellets but real carrots, hay, and wheat bread for the pigs. Her explanation was very enjoyable not only for the kids but for adults too. She spent a good deal of time explaining what was happening on the farm, how the animals came to the island, and what the animals do at the farm. We met a horse trainer, a 14 year old girl who was spending the summer in Maui and who is considered a horse expert. We saw pigs flop around in their mud bath. We even visited a chicken coop and got to see eggs up close and learn how the chickens lay the eggs and how long it takes them to hatch. We were even given a snack of fresh exotic fruit and water after an hour in the hot Maui sun. Then the lady had all the children go into an area where there was a big pond. She had an easter egg hunt for them and then she let the kids go fishing with mini nets and buckets. It was so cute to watch all the kids trying to catch something. She again explained what kind of fish and other creatures were in the pond. Then it was time to run around with ducks and to have a turtle race. The whole experience was extremely fun and educational. Really one of my favorite activities during this trip.
When I was going to Michigan State University, my friends and I would always go to BW3's for hot wings. They always had a variety of flavored wings from Honey BBQ to steaming hot, hot, death wings. Wings and a beer were just the thing to satisfy a busy student's appetite. When we frequented BW3's it was a dive bar but by the time my brother graduated from MSU they swapped locations for a building across the street and turned the name to Buffalo Wild Wings and the restaurant became more like a chain thing. Well, color me shocked the other day when we went to the movies and I saw a Buffalo Wild Wings being built in the AMC Burbank 16 complex. Apparently, after looking on their website they are one of the fastest top 10 chains in the US. So of course I had to introduce the hubby to one of my favorite college treats. I don't think he is so much a fan of chicken wings so we got boneless chicken wings a.k.a. tasty little chicken chunks in two of the flavored sauc...
