Valentines Day 2014

Our third Valentine's Day with Penny was relatively low key but an enjoyable one. Since we had to work today, hubby and I decided to give Penny her gifts last night so we could enjoy her opening/playing with her gifts. She of course doesn't know what Valentine's Day is yet but she had fun opening gifts none-the-less. One look at the bag and she was excited. There is just something about seeing a little kid get all giddy with joy that warms a moms heart. It's those moments you cherish and keep with you while you work away. Cupid brought my little Valentine a new Little People book, an outfit, some Disney toys, her favorite Hershey miniatures chocolates, and a hard to find "Elsa" doll. She loved everything except for the clothes, typical child. We had fun looking through her new book and pulling open the tabs for the first time. She may not have know what the holiday was for but she definitely understood it was a special day. I decided to get up a bit early today to prepare a special breakfast for Penny and hubby. Thanks to Pinterest, I was able to plan my meal fairly quickly. I found the cutest heart shaped bacon bites that took a mere 18 minutes of cooking in the oven and with the help of hubby, we made these mini pink pancake sandwiches with nutella and strawberries. I also took a heart shaped cookie cutter and cut out hearts from melon. Penny loved it all and I must say, bacon hearts on pancakes can be quite tasty! Penny spent the day with Nanny Lissa who had fun painting. Penny made us several portraits. I especially like the big big red heart she did. She also drew pictures for us outside on the pavement with chalk. We didn't have plans to go out but instead stayed home and ate dinner. Brian and I exchanged gifts and cards with two line sentences that were very, very similar.

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

My Favorite Gourmet Trucks

As of last night, I have now tried 18 food trucks! Only 60 more to go! My friends, Krueger and Kristy joined me at 55 Degree Wine in Atwar Village to try the always busy Grilled Cheese Truck! I have run into the truck a few times now but something has always prevented me from trying their food. Mostly the really, really long lines!! This time the hour wait wasn't so bad with two girls to gossip with. By the time we got to the front we were ready to execute our food plan. Kristy took lead and placed an order for 3 sandwiches (the brie, the mac-n-cheese and the rib meat) plus the dessert sandwich and some tator tots!!! I was a bit bummed that they didn't have the sandwich I went for, the Harvest sandwich but the 3 sandwiches we got more than made up for everything. I was glad to try this truck with 2 girls because we split the sandiches in 3rds which was awesome because I got to try a variety of their sandwiches. Now I must add the Grilled Cheese Truck to my list of fa...

Surfing Goat Diary

We left the store and headed to the Surfing Goat Diary, again, this was a second trip for us but what was different this time is that we scheduled an hour long tour. Last time we arrive right before closing and were rushed. We spent a fair amount of time there exploring before the tour. We tried their cheesecake, we met the cats and dogs that roamed the place, we played in the playground, we pet and fed the baby goats that were penned up, and pursued the little store. Penny was eager to get her hands on the chocolate goat milk truffles. I must admit they did look good. I had my eyes on a t-shirt and a mug. Our tour started at 3:30pm that day and we met all the goats and learned all about the farm. But the most exciting part of the tour was getting the opportunity to milk the goats. Penny was quite a good milker. A friend later reminded me that Penny was breastfed (wink, wink). By the time the tour ended we were extremely hot. Maui was hot but also humid. We were ready to...
