Getting' Out of the House

So hubby and I in our quest to do all things a good parent should do (will, trust, life insurance, 529 account, IRA, Roth, etc.) had home medical exams for our two life insurance policies we are applying for. The one good thing about getting laid off was that my old employer paid for me to attend career transition class at Lee Herrick Harrison.

I went to one of their finical seminars and met a really great financial guy. We were able to meet with him independently and ended up hiring him to take over our finances. I really like this guy. He is super responsive and available for any and all kind of questions. The best part is that he doesn't work on commission so he is attentive, helpful and seems to care and like his job. After helping me with the transfer of my 401k and pension plans, he is now helping us with life insurance.

Today, the companies that we are applying for sent out a nurse to give us medical exams. I wasn't sure what to expect. She ended up taking blood samples, urine samples, our blood pressures, and asked us a ton of questions. Nothing really to be scared about in hindsight. I have diabetes so I am wondering if that will effect my coverage. I guess we will find out shortly. This business about getting older and ensuring that your loved ones are taking care of sure does involve a ton of paperwork!

Just when I think we are done something else comes about. I sure have visited the notary a lot lately! After the medical exam, we had a leisurely afternoon. I napped while hubby played on the computer and P napped. When P awoke I took Moses for a walk and hubs took P over to Dave and Verona's house to be watched for the evening.

My old friend, Ann, from AMC, was having a 40th birthday party at The Village in Sherman Oaks at 8pm. I hadn't seen her or her husband, Myron in several years so I was excited to be able to go. An added plus, other AMC friends were going as well. hubby and I left the house at 5:30pm and got to the place at 6pm. We enjoyed some much needed time to ourselves before the party started at 8pm. We had a great time talking and eating. Then at 8pm I felt two arms around my shoulders and turned to find Myron! And that was the start to the second part of our evening. I caught up with Ann, Jen, and Fred. I was hoping to see Rodeline but I guess she got her Baconfest dates mixed up and couldn't attend.

A good time was had by all!

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

Surfing Goat Diary

We left the store and headed to the Surfing Goat Diary, again, this was a second trip for us but what was different this time is that we scheduled an hour long tour. Last time we arrive right before closing and were rushed. We spent a fair amount of time there exploring before the tour. We tried their cheesecake, we met the cats and dogs that roamed the place, we played in the playground, we pet and fed the baby goats that were penned up, and pursued the little store. Penny was eager to get her hands on the chocolate goat milk truffles. I must admit they did look good. I had my eyes on a t-shirt and a mug. Our tour started at 3:30pm that day and we met all the goats and learned all about the farm. But the most exciting part of the tour was getting the opportunity to milk the goats. Penny was quite a good milker. A friend later reminded me that Penny was breastfed (wink, wink). By the time the tour ended we were extremely hot. Maui was hot but also humid. We were ready to...

Vaccine Part 1

As a little girl I would look on my mom’s arm and wonder why she had such a weird mark near her shoulder. A few days ago, as the warm solution penetrated my bloodstream, I started to cry remembering my mom’s mark. The nurse asked me if I was okay and I told her I was so incredibly happy. As a diabetic I was stressed never knowing if I was doing enough to avoid it but also, keeping some semblance of life in doing outdoor things. I cried because I am incredibly grateful to the SCIENCE that made this possible in only a year. Less time for me to worry about my only kiddo should the worse happen.  If ur on the fence...I’ve worked in entertainment for over 20 years and I’ve seen first hand how easy celebrities influence the public.  Some do good and others well...I’m happy to have a little bit of the gracious Dolly Parton with me.  Scientists on the other hand, very rarely get the recognition for their years of study, years of research and expertise contributing to (wo)mankind....
