My Birthing Experience - Part 3

Continued from last post... After being in recovery for 2 hours I was wheeled up to my room on the 4th floor of St. Joe's. The theme of the 4th floor was "It's A Small World" as opposed to the baby Dumbo theme of the Labor and Delivery 3rd Floor. I won't lie, I wasn't feeling like I could run a marathon. But luckily for me, I was recovering from my emergency c-section quicker than ladies who elect c-sections in the first place. Apparently, since I had already had an epidural, the drugs used during my c-section were different from the ones they use for a scheduled c-section. The ladies who schedule c-sections take a lot longer to recover. My recover room nurse was surprised I could move my legs so quickly after surgery until she found out I had had an epidural. I guess it takes ladies 24 hours to be able to move their legs around after the surgery. Despite having the function of my legs back two hours after surgery I stills wasn't feeling all so ...

My Birthing Experience - Part 2

Continued from previous post ...The nurse went to order me some drugs and all I could think of was I better dig in cuz it would be a long night in the hospital if I was only 1 cm dilated. The nurse came back and told me she contacted the anesthesiologist. The nurse taking care of me was hard core in nature. She was nice but not too into soothing my apparent pain. I got the distinct feeling that she thought I was a wuss and could have easily said "Oh, suck it up!" Suffice to say, I was not only in pain but annoyed with my nurse. As it was, I couldn't think about that nurse too much as the contractions were more intense. It felt like forever before the anesthesiologist woman came with her drugs aka the epidural. The nurses told hubby he had to leave for the procedure and I think hubby was glad but nervous. All I knew about the epidural was that it was something they had to jab into your back. In fact it is a big needle they jab in your back to numb your back b...

My Birthing Experience - Part 1

Just yesterday it was the middle of November and now, all of the sudden, it's December 30th and the beginning of a new year is looming only hours away. It has been about 6 weeks since I have updated this blog but the time could easily have been a year in itself to me. So much has happened it's hard to process it much less write about it. But first and foremost, I am happy to report that I became a mom, my hubby became a dad and Moses, became a brother. There is so much to catch up on, I am not quite sure where to start. I guess I will begin with December 12th. On that day, I gave birth to my daughter, Penelope Grace at 5:26am. She weighed 7 lbs, 9 oz and was 20 inches long. As much as books, doctors, friends and family would like to advise about the birthing experience, nothing can really prepare you for the actual experience itself. After experiencing child birth first hand, it is my humble opinion, that no amount of books read or Lamaze classes taken, can prepare a c...

Two Peas In A Pod

Lately, everyone has been asking the same question. "How is Moses adjusting to the baby?" I think this picture says it all. He has become her guardian. Though I must admit that at first, I am pretty sure he wondered what small beast had invaded his home. If I were to get inside of Moses' head, I would have to say that he didn't know what to think of this loud, crying thing. He gave her a few sniffs and ignored her in the beginning. Then I think he got jealous as there was a lot of Moses sticking his head near our legs, a sure sign that he wants attention. Then he would see his parents taking the little beast in the car a lot which I know he didn't like as he loves going on car rides. We had to take Penny to a lot of doctors appointments which meant riding in the car a lot. Moses didn't like the idea of the little beast getting to go in the car more than him. Nowadays he guards Miss Penny, often licking her head repeatedly. He likes to ma...
