Happy Birthday To Everybody's Friend, Toby!

Your good friend and mine is having a birthday today. Yes, it's Toby Cheung's birthday. If by chance you don't know Toby, which I find hard to believe, then all you need to know is this is a man who keeps in touch. Oh yeah, and he is really, really, really passionate about food! Buffetclub anyone?
Toby somehow finds the time to keep in touch with a ton of people. I am constantly amazed by the information he knows just about my family let alone the millions of friends he has in Texas or in Vancouver, or in Hong Kong. Toby is worldwide! I guess it helps when you a photographer whose job takes you from state to state and when you have a zest for travel that takes him beyond the US shores.

Not only does Toby email, phone, text, and Beluga but he somehow finds the time to send people handwritten postcards. Do you know how rare it is for people to send snail mail these days? It's rare. I don't know about everyone else but each time I get a card from Toby in the mail, he makes me feel special. I like my nephew, keep a shoe box full of all his postcards and like to look at them from time to time.

Anyhow, this is a man with a big heart and a big smile, sure he walks around on the tippy toes of his feet but it is most interesting to watch him. He is so well loved that even our nephew calls him Uncle. People want to go on trips with him. Everyone just wants to be around Toby.

Well Toby, the old and the new Brokencandy wish you a very happy birthday! We are so happy that you are in our lives. We love you!

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

Surfing Goat Diary

We left the store and headed to the Surfing Goat Diary, again, this was a second trip for us but what was different this time is that we scheduled an hour long tour. Last time we arrive right before closing and were rushed. We spent a fair amount of time there exploring before the tour. We tried their cheesecake, we met the cats and dogs that roamed the place, we played in the playground, we pet and fed the baby goats that were penned up, and pursued the little store. Penny was eager to get her hands on the chocolate goat milk truffles. I must admit they did look good. I had my eyes on a t-shirt and a mug. Our tour started at 3:30pm that day and we met all the goats and learned all about the farm. But the most exciting part of the tour was getting the opportunity to milk the goats. Penny was quite a good milker. A friend later reminded me that Penny was breastfed (wink, wink). By the time the tour ended we were extremely hot. Maui was hot but also humid. We were ready to...

Vaccine Part 1

As a little girl I would look on my mom’s arm and wonder why she had such a weird mark near her shoulder. A few days ago, as the warm solution penetrated my bloodstream, I started to cry remembering my mom’s mark. The nurse asked me if I was okay and I told her I was so incredibly happy. As a diabetic I was stressed never knowing if I was doing enough to avoid it but also, keeping some semblance of life in doing outdoor things. I cried because I am incredibly grateful to the SCIENCE that made this possible in only a year. Less time for me to worry about my only kiddo should the worse happen.  If ur on the fence...I’ve worked in entertainment for over 20 years and I’ve seen first hand how easy celebrities influence the public.  Some do good and others well...I’m happy to have a little bit of the gracious Dolly Parton with me.  Scientists on the other hand, very rarely get the recognition for their years of study, years of research and expertise contributing to (wo)mankind....
