Happy 35th Birthday Krueger!

One thing can be sure in life and that is my friend, Krueger will always celebrate her birthday at The Red Lion. A true blue German (her parents moved to the US from Germany) Krueger is a creature of habit but mostly she is stubborn. It's in her blood. Her grandma survived a concentration camp and that will to survive in the hardest conditions lives on in her granddaughter. How else can you explain Krueger's unwillingness to give up VHS tapes? You may think you know a creature of habit but let me assure you that you don't...unless you have met Krueger.

If she doesn't understand it or live by it, its wrong. This girl has a secret stash of her favorite Addias flip flops (made in the 1990's) that she will only take out for a special occasion because Addias has stopped making them and she has worn her many other pairs down to crumbles. She only got this pair because a friend was traveling the country and found them in a little shop and bought them for Krueger. Krueger, in order to preserve what she feels is heaven, keeps them in a box and wears these on the rarest of occasions. But let me tell you I have known her for 15 years and she always wore those flips flops. Always. She only stopped when the duct tape wore out on her last pair about 3 years ago.

Yes, a little bit of motherland, Germany lives in Glendale and each year, her friends are subjected to chicken schnitzel, brats, and sauerkraut. Well, this year I rebelled and ordered fish and chips and so did 4 other people. She was not pleased and branded us Britonites. I couldn't get her to see my point...which was if the Red Lion serves it on the menu it must be German....right? Wrong. It took some dessert to get her happy again but then she made us taste it and you know what?......well, watch the video.

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

Buffalo Wild Wings

When I was going to Michigan State University, my friends and I would always go to BW3's for hot wings. They always had a variety of flavored wings from Honey BBQ to steaming hot, hot, death wings. Wings and a beer were just the thing to satisfy a busy student's appetite. When we frequented BW3's it was a dive bar but by the time my brother graduated from MSU they swapped locations for a building across the street and turned the name to Buffalo Wild Wings and the restaurant became more like a chain thing. Well, color me shocked the other day when we went to the movies and I saw a Buffalo Wild Wings being built in the AMC Burbank 16 complex. Apparently, after looking on their website they are one of the fastest top 10 chains in the US. So of course I had to introduce the hubby to one of my favorite college treats. I don't think he is so much a fan of chicken wings so we got boneless chicken wings a.k.a. tasty little chicken chunks in two of the flavored sauc...

Everyone is Having Kids

Yesterday, one of my roommates from the Burbank years gave birth to a little girl. This is her third child. While I am so completely happy for her this happy celebration has gotten me thinking about children and nosey people who ask me when I am going to have them. Some might think this subject is it too personal for blog talk but I figure if people want to bud into my business by asking me about kids then I can bud into yours by talking about them. I realize that I am physically old enough to have kids but being physically old enough isn't enough for me. Today, as I looked at my friend's blog describing her birthing experience, I realized the only reason I am thinking about children so much lately is because so many darn people are asking me about them. Every single friggin day I run into "Patty" at work. I have known her for a very long time and while I know she was super happy for me when I got married, I am so not happy about her enthusiasm about me having bab...
