My 1st Yelp Dinner

Besides Vinylmation my other addiction of late is Yelping. I love trying new places to eat and writing reviews. It would seem that I have gotten myself entangled into a small clique that likes to get together and go out and try new restaurants. This week I got my first invitation to join their small group for dinner next Friday. So what does this mean? That I am finally going to meet some of the people that I am friends with on Yelp.

See friends on YELP are different then friends on FACEBOOK. On Facebook, I know all the people I am friends with. On Yelp, people can ask to be your friend because they like to read your reviews. I have about 50 friends on YELP. Some are my real life friends but to tell you the truth, I have been having a lot of fun talking to people I don't know.

The girl that invited me to diner next Friday, Lucy, was the very first Yelper I met in real life. I met her at the Yelp Elite Christmas Party after becoming an Elite Member in December. The person I am most excited to meet at dinner is Bill, otherwise known as the guy I was in the Food Truck Race with. He won the race and has amassed 70 food truck visits to date! That is amazing I think.

It was Bill that nominated me to be an Elite Member on Yelp. I was accepted by the Elite Squad so now I get invited to special food events around LA. I have to admit that YELP is pretty darn fun! I have been trying some really good food lately. Anyhow, I am looking forward to meeting a few more foodies next Friday. Don't worry Dad, hubby is going with me. hehehe

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

Surfing Goat Diary

We left the store and headed to the Surfing Goat Diary, again, this was a second trip for us but what was different this time is that we scheduled an hour long tour. Last time we arrive right before closing and were rushed. We spent a fair amount of time there exploring before the tour. We tried their cheesecake, we met the cats and dogs that roamed the place, we played in the playground, we pet and fed the baby goats that were penned up, and pursued the little store. Penny was eager to get her hands on the chocolate goat milk truffles. I must admit they did look good. I had my eyes on a t-shirt and a mug. Our tour started at 3:30pm that day and we met all the goats and learned all about the farm. But the most exciting part of the tour was getting the opportunity to milk the goats. Penny was quite a good milker. A friend later reminded me that Penny was breastfed (wink, wink). By the time the tour ended we were extremely hot. Maui was hot but also humid. We were ready to...

Vaccine Part 1

As a little girl I would look on my mom’s arm and wonder why she had such a weird mark near her shoulder. A few days ago, as the warm solution penetrated my bloodstream, I started to cry remembering my mom’s mark. The nurse asked me if I was okay and I told her I was so incredibly happy. As a diabetic I was stressed never knowing if I was doing enough to avoid it but also, keeping some semblance of life in doing outdoor things. I cried because I am incredibly grateful to the SCIENCE that made this possible in only a year. Less time for me to worry about my only kiddo should the worse happen.  If ur on the fence...I’ve worked in entertainment for over 20 years and I’ve seen first hand how easy celebrities influence the public.  Some do good and others well...I’m happy to have a little bit of the gracious Dolly Parton with me.  Scientists on the other hand, very rarely get the recognition for their years of study, years of research and expertise contributing to (wo)mankind....
