Ben: What should win, "Toy Story 3", hands down. What probably will win, "The Social Network" or "The Fighter". "Black Swan" will get nominated and I would love for it to win, but it's too indie of a film and not commercial enough for The Acad...
like "Network" and "Fighter". However, I liked "Network" SLIGHTLY better than "Black Swan". I emphasize the word "slightly". Your movie, "The King's Speech" will get nominated too. So don't worry :)

Fred: You're correct on the Best Actor. Probably even Best Picture but Social Network is a strong dark horse. Supporting isnt Rush .. it's Bale this year

Ben: Yeah forgot to mention that. It's the one sure thing this year, Christian Bale as best supporting actor. As clear as the nose on your face. He totally deserves it.

Me: Well besides social network I haven't seen any of the contenders yet. I just really enjoyed kings speech. I had heard bale was the one to beat. I am hoping to see the fighter later this week.

Me: If my people had wanted me to see these movies they would have invited me to screen them... I will get to them when I get to them in my personal time.

Ben: Once the nominations are announced there will probably be a lot of screenings lol!

Jeff: Kings Speech is really good. It should get all kinds of nominations and could be in the running for Best Picture. Bale should have Supporting Actor lined up for The Fighter...almost as clear a winner as Christoph Waltz last year. Best Actress is going to be a tough one; I've already seen great performances from Nicole Kidman (The Rabbit Hole) and Halle Berry (Frankie & Alice) and Nathalie Portman (Black Swan).

Me: Plus kings speech is British and the academy loves the British! I would really like to see Colin Firth win... He has been enjoyable to watch over the years! I really liked that movie Jeff! Anyhoo, now to decide on the next film to see. Hum.. Choices.. Choices.

Ben:Oh that's easy, Natalie Portman for Best Actress. She just announced her pregnancy to her soon to be husband/choreographer for "Black Swan"/the main male dancer she danced with in the film. So the media will eat that up and buzz will derive because of it. But I honestly think she had the best performance. Definitely better than Halle Berry, although she did a great job too.

Jeff: There's plenty of time for other actors to make babies and wed! :)

Ben: Look at Sandra Bullock. She beat Meryl Streep last year, the greatest actress of all time for goodness sake. All the politics and buzz were in Sandra's favor.

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

Surfing Goat Diary

We left the store and headed to the Surfing Goat Diary, again, this was a second trip for us but what was different this time is that we scheduled an hour long tour. Last time we arrive right before closing and were rushed. We spent a fair amount of time there exploring before the tour. We tried their cheesecake, we met the cats and dogs that roamed the place, we played in the playground, we pet and fed the baby goats that were penned up, and pursued the little store. Penny was eager to get her hands on the chocolate goat milk truffles. I must admit they did look good. I had my eyes on a t-shirt and a mug. Our tour started at 3:30pm that day and we met all the goats and learned all about the farm. But the most exciting part of the tour was getting the opportunity to milk the goats. Penny was quite a good milker. A friend later reminded me that Penny was breastfed (wink, wink). By the time the tour ended we were extremely hot. Maui was hot but also humid. We were ready to...

Vaccine Part 1

As a little girl I would look on my mom’s arm and wonder why she had such a weird mark near her shoulder. A few days ago, as the warm solution penetrated my bloodstream, I started to cry remembering my mom’s mark. The nurse asked me if I was okay and I told her I was so incredibly happy. As a diabetic I was stressed never knowing if I was doing enough to avoid it but also, keeping some semblance of life in doing outdoor things. I cried because I am incredibly grateful to the SCIENCE that made this possible in only a year. Less time for me to worry about my only kiddo should the worse happen.  If ur on the fence...I’ve worked in entertainment for over 20 years and I’ve seen first hand how easy celebrities influence the public.  Some do good and others well...I’m happy to have a little bit of the gracious Dolly Parton with me.  Scientists on the other hand, very rarely get the recognition for their years of study, years of research and expertise contributing to (wo)mankind....
