My hubby is absolutely, the best husband in the world! If by chance you don’t know this to be true yourselves, this story I am about to tell will confirm his amazing awesomeness. I get home Friday night, July 30th only to be greeted by my hubby who asks about my day. After saying, “It was all right” he asks me if I by chance received any flowers that day. I said, “um no.” “You didn’t?” he said. “Nope” I replied. He said “That is weird, I drove to your work and delivered flowers for you to the mail room. "I thought girls like to get flowers in front of other people so that is why I decided to delivered them to your work.” Apparently, hubby came to work at 3pm and I left work at 4:30pm. Concerned that I didn’t get my flowers and after spewing a few impolite words regarding the mailroom people, I called my office to see if the flowers had arrived. They confirmed and so I had them messenger them to me. Hubby's flowers arrive at 9:00pm. Of course, they are beautiful, if any of you boys want to impress your girls, then I highly recommend calling the Dandelion Ranch as hubby uses them and they make beautiful, eclectic, earthy floral arrangements. After setting the flowers on the table I see a note. Inside the note is a message from hubby that says “Most people get 35 candles their birthday cake. Boring. I'm gonna give you 35 surprises. #1 Flowers“ I was immeiately thrilled (who wouldn't be?). 35 surprises! Holy Cow. My birthday weekend was shaping up better than expected. Hubby came home Friday night early. And by early I mean before I went to bed. When he got home he gave me surprises #2, #3 and #4 which were 3 DVD’s I really wanted. In case you are wondering they were all cheesy romance films I love. #2 WILD HEARTS CAN’T BE BROKEN (A 1990's Disney Film) and #3 was EVERGREEN (a Belva Plain miniseries that ran on NBC in 1985 for which I used to have a VHS copy of the film but alas had gotten rid of a long time ago when DVD became the new thing). Unfortunately, no one sells EVERGREEN on DVD except for this one guy on the internet who sells hard to find items aka a nerd living in his mothers basement who made a copy of the movie from a VHS tape. #4 was A FAR OFF PLACE (a 1990's Disney/Amblin film). I was so happy to one again own copies of these movies! Score 4 points for hubby (flowers and 3 movies). So Saturday morning I awake and go into the kitchen. There on the kitchen counter is array of things. The first item to take my notice was an envelope marked #5. The #5 like all the other numbers on the gifts so far, had been rubber stamped onto fine stationary. I open up the envelope and inside was a card that said “GRUB” rubber stamped in capital letters. Under that in lowercase letters rubber stamped was the words “Lets grab something to eat at Home.” Cool I think to myself, breakfast. Then I see gifts #6 and #7 which were new pairs of sunglasses. For the past couple of years hubby has gotten me a few pairs of cheapie sunglasses for my birthday. I love sunglasses but refuse to pay big money for some Gucci’s because envitably I always lose them or break them. So hubby has kept me well stocked with glasses these past few years. Gifts #8-16 was a set of True Blood “Sookie” books which he had already given me a few weeks ago when I started my summer book club. After the books, I see another envelope sitting on top of a beach bag. I open it and it reveals the words BEACH DAY “Spend the day with Moses and I at the beach.”
So gifts 5-16 were all related to spending a day at the beach which is one of my favorite summertime things to do. Hubby woke up shortly after I found all my presents. He asks if I am ready to go. So I shower and we hopped in the car and it was a good 10 minutes before I realized I didn’t get breakfast. By that point I realized that we were in Los Feliz and we were near a restaurant called HOME and then it dawned on me that we were go there. Hubby had bought a $15 dollar Groupon (Groupons are daily deals in LA that usually offer some food, service or item for half the cost, the kicker is you have to buy the Groupon that day to get the savings) to the restaurant. So in reality we were getting $30 worth of food. So we started our day out with a big breakfast. Even Moses got a plate of bacon. After breakfast we headed to Belmont Beach, a dog beach in Long Beach. We had a real blast with Moses playing in the water and the sand. Right when we were about to leave hubby gives me an envelope marked #17-18 inside the words DOG WASH appeared with the following text “Want to go home with a clean dog and grab some lunch?” The cool thing about Belmont Beach is not only do they have a really good dog beach but they have a restaurant that allows dogs and they have a self wash dog wash. Unfortunately, the restaurant which had a sign that says Open 7 days a week on it was apparently close that day so no lunch. But the dog wash was open. We were quickly shown to a private booth that had this huge sink and all the parfanella one needs to wash a dog. Hubby and I were having an “I Love Lucy” moment before we realized there were aprons hanging that would have prevented about a gallon of water falling on us. Now Moses usually hates water and is not big on baths but I think because we were having so much fun in the whole process that I feel safe to say it was perhaps his most enjoyable bath ever. Suffice to say for $15 bucks the 3 of us had a great time. We got home around 5ish and hubby and Moses took a nap while I showered it up. Around 7pm we headed off to The York, my favorite bar in Eagle Rock to meet up with my BFF Caroline and her boyfriend, Minh.
On the way, hubby had to stop at the grocery store and before hubby goes in, he hands me a red envelope with the number #20 on it. While he is in the store I open my envelope and I find a gift certificate for a cooking class.
When hubby returns he tells me since I had been so bored this summer he wanted to get me something to keep me busy so he found this business that gets people together to show people how to cook something and then afterward everyone eats what they make together. I am able to select whichever class I want but was immediately intrigued with his description of a sushi class (though I may change my mind once I see the entire list of classes offered).
We met up with Caroline and Minh an had dinner and drinks. a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9v8gSazdC3MkPTSozqCZgR-6EHOigkt7rUuWweIxHava8U83xW1nNZqklhwDPNc69KXIfIFe6_DxHQR04JEdLsCiOZGzb3UPVW79FBiu1F4g3RwNFSgB8426uMHjhSDUXN958OQ/s1600/IMG_6692.JPG"> Caroline brought dessert. Some Smore Cupcakes. Later in the evening hubby goes to the bar and grabs some drinks. He hands me my Red Stripe and around the neck is the number #21 and attached to the tag is a ring. Upon closer look the ring is a ring from the Renegade Craft Fair we went to last weekend. I had told him about these clock rings I liked but didn’t get and he must have went back and gotten the ring I described. Can you say “how sweet?” On Sunday morning, I awoke and took the dog for a walk like I normally do. When I returned hubby was busy cooking. He told me to stay in the living room until he was ready. Well when he was ready he lead me outside to a little table for 2 we have situated under our lemon tree. Well, color me surprised yet again when I saw this table covered in a pretty table cloth, with cloth napkins, our goo silverware, Champaign glasses, champagne, and not to mention a seriously good looking breakfast pizza with egg on top!! As I sat down I saw a few gifts hanging in the branches of the tree. Gifts #22 was breakfast an champagne mimosas (and the orange juice was freshly squeeze from the oranges on our tree) #23 was a third pair of sunglasses, #24 were hair pins (because I am all about decorative hair pins these days) #25 was an envelope. When I opened the envelope the word ART appeared with the text “We are off to see come art today.” This turned out to be a trip to LACMA or the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
After an amazing tasting meal (in which I ate way too much) we headed off to the Wilshire area to LACMA. We spent several hours going through the 9 different buildings that make up the museum. I really love looking at art but I don’t go that much. Around 3ish hubby asks if I am hungry and I say out rightly “No!” and he replies “well, that ruins surprise #26” – an envelope that says we are having lunch at the LA Farmers Market. Even though I was full we get in the car an head to the LA Farmers Market anyway. While we are in the car he gives me an envelope that says #27 an inside words say “choose one big thing.” Hubby says I am able to pick out whatever I want. I had been looking at some bedroom furniture (a bed frame from Pottery Barn) so I was assuming this card was meant for that item.
At the Farmers Market, I really couldn’t eat without bursting some seems so we settled for a snack, some beignets from this New Orleans place. I did however get a big ice tea cuz I was thirsty. We spent an hour looking around at different stores before we had to leave. Hubby took me home and told me to put on warm clothes and then he ran around like a crazy man putting stuff together. At one point he directed me to the kitchen table where I saw more gifts. #28 was a picture frame that matched 4 other pictures frames. He got me a 5th picture frame because I wanted to hang some pictures of Mo in my Travel Room and in feng shui the travel room must have things that represent the #5. So this sweet man gave me a 5th picture frame so my room would be feng shui’s right. #29 was a hammer in which hubby said he will hang these 5 photos for me. #30 was a sink caddy. You are probably wondering why a sink caddy? But if you saw our kitchen sink you would know why.
#31 was some popcorn kernels and seasoning salt (because he bought me a popcorn maker for xmas and I ran out of popcorn) #32 was another envelope – inside it said “Shakespeare in the park”.
So that night he took me to Griffith Park and we saw a Othello, a free play put on by a Shakespearean acting company. Hubby packed a picnic #33 aka food he picked up at the Farmers Market while I wasn’t looking. And….he even replicate this pineapple banana split ice cream boat we enjoyed in Maui. The people next to us at the park actually clapped out loud and said we won the award for the best picnic dessert ever. So here I am watching this play in the park an eating a banana split out of a pineapple. How amazing is that?
Surprise #34 was an envelope that he slid under the blanket we were keeping warm in during the play. Inside the envelope was tickets to The Hollywood Bowl for the end of August. The tickets are to see John Williams, this famous Hollywood music composer, who I have been wanting to see for a few years now. ....The play by the way, was awesome!
Surprise #35 I received on my actual birthday. I wasn’t able to take the day off from work because my boss was traveling and I was left to run the show and hubby had to work in the evening so when I got home he left me my last present on top of the mail. The moment I saw the Tiffany blue bag my hear skipped several beats! Inside the bag was a box with a white ribbon and also another small jewelry bag. I opened the jewelry bag and there was the earrings hubby gave me when we first started going out. I wore them so much that they broke. We had got them fixed again and again and I thought he had done it once again. Later he told me he went in to get them fixed an Tiffany’s just replace the entire set of earrings with a new pair!!! As if that wasn’t amazing enough I see another box an inside there is another set of new earrings. I couldn’t believe it. I never thought I’d find another set of Tiffany earrings I loved so much but hubby found another pair!
It's funny but hubby confessed that he hadn’t planned the Tiffany thing. He said his original #35 was that he was going to make me cupcakes but since Caroline already gave me the smore cupcakes and I mentioned I was completely full and stuffed from food in general he had to come up with something else. Well, I am so lucky that he came up with Tiffany’s!!! I guess I have Caroline to thank. If she hadn’t gotten me cupcakes already I wouldn’t have gotten 2 sets of Tiffany Earrings.
So you see, after all of this, you MUST agree with me that I do have the WORLD’S BEST HUSBAND!
