LA Food Trucks

The latest LA cuisine that everyone is raving about is the Food Truck cuisine. Not only is food truck food good but it's cheap. Most items are only a couple of dollars which is very helpful in these hard economic times. Granted it's probably not the healthiest food for the citizens of LA (although there are the healthier trucks out there) but boy is it ever a tasty trend. Most trucks drive around in LA and with the help of TWITTER post where they are going to be on any giving morning, afternoon or evening. People flock to where they are going to be. Sometimes the trucks get together and you can find 2-3 trucks on a street. And more often we are finding Food Fests that feature several of the cities 20-30 trucks in one place for an event like atmosphere. Tonight the hubby I had set out to watch a movie at the AMERICANA AT BRAND (an outdoor mall in Glendale) but instead we ran into a Food Truck Festival. The Americana had invited 10 trucks to come out and sell food to their patrons.

We arrived at 6pm and the first line we found ourselves in was the COOLHAUS line. This truck is known for their gourmet ice cream sandwiches. The ice cream is made daily and comes in fun flavors such as Dirty Mint Chip or Brown Butter w/ Candied Bacon or Pistachio w/ Black Truffles. They usually have a special flavor that is featured too. Once you pick your flavor then you pick a type of cookie you want your ice cream to be in. There is everything from chocolate chip cookies to french brioche. The ice cream sandwich is then served in an edible wrapper. This particular week COOLHAUS was giving away free sandwiches so color us surprised when no money was handed over upon giving them our yummy request.

The next line we found ourselves in was the BUTTERMILK truck. I have been wanting to try this truck forever. It is one on the more popular trucks in LA. When we went to a food fest a few months ago in Downtown LA this line was like a 2-3 hour wait! That night they only had 5 items to choose from but boy where they ever good items to choose from. We settled on 2 items: The Red Velvet with chocolate Chip Pancake Bites with a dollop of cream cheese butter and the French Toast Sticks made from Hawaiian bread. Both were very tasty but the mouth watering winner was the Red Velvet Pancake Bites. I seriously will be watching for this truck to come to my neighborhood.

The last line we found ourselves in the the World Fare Bus Truck. LA's first double decker bus debuted this past March. The bus is a vintage English double decker and the chef used to be one of Gordon Ramsey's sous chefs. They serve up Bunny Chow. We got 2 short rib bunnies aka a hollowed out piece of bread filled with rib meat. We also tried the mac and cheese balls and homemade lemonade.

Boy, do I ever love my city for all of its great food!

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

My Favorite Gourmet Trucks

As of last night, I have now tried 18 food trucks! Only 60 more to go! My friends, Krueger and Kristy joined me at 55 Degree Wine in Atwar Village to try the always busy Grilled Cheese Truck! I have run into the truck a few times now but something has always prevented me from trying their food. Mostly the really, really long lines!! This time the hour wait wasn't so bad with two girls to gossip with. By the time we got to the front we were ready to execute our food plan. Kristy took lead and placed an order for 3 sandwiches (the brie, the mac-n-cheese and the rib meat) plus the dessert sandwich and some tator tots!!! I was a bit bummed that they didn't have the sandwich I went for, the Harvest sandwich but the 3 sandwiches we got more than made up for everything. I was glad to try this truck with 2 girls because we split the sandiches in 3rds which was awesome because I got to try a variety of their sandwiches. Now I must add the Grilled Cheese Truck to my list of fa...

Surfing Goat Diary

We left the store and headed to the Surfing Goat Diary, again, this was a second trip for us but what was different this time is that we scheduled an hour long tour. Last time we arrive right before closing and were rushed. We spent a fair amount of time there exploring before the tour. We tried their cheesecake, we met the cats and dogs that roamed the place, we played in the playground, we pet and fed the baby goats that were penned up, and pursued the little store. Penny was eager to get her hands on the chocolate goat milk truffles. I must admit they did look good. I had my eyes on a t-shirt and a mug. Our tour started at 3:30pm that day and we met all the goats and learned all about the farm. But the most exciting part of the tour was getting the opportunity to milk the goats. Penny was quite a good milker. A friend later reminded me that Penny was breastfed (wink, wink). By the time the tour ended we were extremely hot. Maui was hot but also humid. We were ready to...
