I admit it. I am a Twihard now.

So when I was in Chicago visiting my family, my sister-in-law had my Dad buy me a book called "Twilight" at Wal-Mart. She gave it to me and tells me that it's the best book ever. She says that it was so good that she had to give my little nephew, Will the middle name of Edward. I thought she was friggin' crazy. She hands me the book and I twinge. I had heard of the book and the crazy commercial craze it sparked. And the one thing I knew was that I absolutely didn't want to be one of "those girls" who became obsessed over some teeny bopper book. The only reason I picked up the book was because I thought it would be rude if I didn't at least read the first chapter after Kate went to all the trouble of having my Dad buy it. I thought for sure the book was going to go into the trash. So I sat down and started reading the first chapter and then the second and by the next afternoon I had finished the entire 550 pg book in 1 day. I had to admit it was good. That afternoon my dad went to Wal-Mart again and when he came back he handed me the second book. So I sat down and finished that book in a day. That evening my sister-in-law had me watch the 1st movie. I couldn't believe I was actually watching it but there I was totally sucked in and watching every stupid movement between Bella and Edward. The movie made all the characters come alive. I was like "oh shit, I am hooked!" Now granted "Twilight" the movie wasn't the best movie ever made but having read the book I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was like codene to the crack of the book. Of course, I posted on FaceBook about my Twilight discovery and out of no where I find these friends of mine shouting "Team Edward" & "Team Jacob." At first I had no idea what this meant. And then it dawned on me "oh dummy, love triangle!" Then the realization...."Don't friggin tell me she ends up with Jacob!!" I was going to wait to read the 3rd book at home but I went to Kate's bookshelf and pulled out "Eclipse." That is when she tells me the second book's movie comes out on DVD in a week and that they were making a 3rd movie. So that information made me go online and watch the 3rd movies teaser and payoff trailers a million times. I read "Eclipse" in one day too. When I finished "Eclipse" I had about 15 hours left in Chicago before I had to go home. I was like I will just read it when I get home. But as I was lying in bed I had this nagging feeling. I just had to see who she ends up with. So I go to the 4th book "Breaking Dawn" from the book shelve and read all night. I got 550 pages into the 750 page book before I had to go back to LA. I didn't want to take Kate's book so I thought I'd buy the paperback at the airport. But when I got to the airport I found out it wasn't in paperback yet and I had to pay $25 for a hard cover. "Motherfucker" I say. So I flew from Chicago to Dallas and it was still bugging me how the series would end. So I got to the Dallas Airport and with 15 mins to spare in between flights I said "fuck it" and bought the book. I read the last 200 pages from Dallas to Burbank. I literally finished the thing as we touched ground and this lady, who I hadn't noticed before says "Well, how did you like it?" This sparked a 20 minute conversation that lasted till baggage claim. When I got home I ordered the second movie from Amazon and then I wished I didn't because it was going to take like 2 weeks to get. So while I waited for the DVD to come I find myself asking my vendors if they printed the movie posters. I finally found the people who did and I wind up with a ton of posters. Next I find myself hanging up posters from a competitive studio in my office. And not only that I am in deep conversations with a girl in my office who is also a fan. I give her some posters and all of the sudden all the girls in my office have these "Twilight" posters hanging around. (Ironically, my studio had the rights to the books and sold them.) All the guys think we are completely insane. I even find myself looking at lunch boxes and figurines online. Then amazingly, the DVD of the second movie comes 3 days after its release so I finally get to see the second book in action. By this point I am completely obsessed. Studio friends are sending me clips from the new movie to watch and pictures to look at. I never knew there was this network of people who love this book.movie saga. Finally, in my last steps confirming my obsession, I swapped out my FaceBook profile picture and MAC desktop with images from the movie. Yes, I have to admit it, I am officially a Twihard. Or "Twitard" as I am sure my hubby thinks. I have already watched the movie a million times and I can't wait to see it again. At the end of the day, these books basically equate to a really well written romance novel. And us girls find ourselves fantasizing. It's really easy to do when you have this gorgeous vampire and werewolfs. I think the pull is that Edward is this ultimate bad boy who turns out to be the ultimate hero. That and a bunch of sexual tension. At the end of the day, all us girls want is to be swept off our feet. And there is no easier way to get that feeling then reading one of these books or watching one of these movies. Yesm I hate to admit it but I have fallen under the spell of this teeny bopper craze and I am a Twihard.

Buffalo Wild Wings

When I was going to Michigan State University, my friends and I would always go to BW3's for hot wings. They always had a variety of flavored wings from Honey BBQ to steaming hot, hot, death wings. Wings and a beer were just the thing to satisfy a busy student's appetite. When we frequented BW3's it was a dive bar but by the time my brother graduated from MSU they swapped locations for a building across the street and turned the name to Buffalo Wild Wings and the restaurant became more like a chain thing. Well, color me shocked the other day when we went to the movies and I saw a Buffalo Wild Wings being built in the AMC Burbank 16 complex. Apparently, after looking on their website they are one of the fastest top 10 chains in the US. So of course I had to introduce the hubby to one of my favorite college treats. I don't think he is so much a fan of chicken wings so we got boneless chicken wings a.k.a. tasty little chicken chunks in two of the flavored sauc...

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

The Lost Art of Letter Writing

This week I was the recepient of two postcards. In the age of e-mailing and blogging this is a rare occurrrance. It's not that people don't write anymore it's just they are doing it in different forms and I think in less personal forms. It's kinda sad when you think about it. For me, there is nothing better then getting a hand written letter in the mail because it means someone was specifically thinking about you. Writing a letter these days takes a lot of effort when GMail is so near. I mean a person has to pick out stationary (if they even have any on hand), find time to sit down and compose a letter (and who has a spare half hour these days?), find or buy a stamp and actually walk the letter to the mailbox. With all this effort, no wonder people email these days! My girlfriend Becky and I joke that the United States Postal Service has become "Snail Mail." Most times before a letter gets to us these days we already know the information inside ...
