When You're Not Looking....

Life gets busy!! Work is once again crazy hectic. We didn't have any movies to work on for the 4th quarter so August till the beginning of October was slow. You know its slow when the President of your division tells everyone to take a vacation and use their built up time. I was able to use four days myself. Two for a long weekend in Palm Springs and two for a long weekend with my parents who came to visit from Michigan.

Then about two weeks ago all the movies for 1st quarter 2010 kicked in. We have a movie ever month starting in January till July. Suffice to say, I have been trying to make miracles happen to get posters, standees, banners, etc up into theatres overseas for Christmas. It's not easy when half of the art is not done and you are waiting on approvals. Well, life at work has changed yet again. We are working more closely with the US Creative team so that has meant a ton of meetings. I suddenly find my days explaining why we need something so quickly. Sometimes the US doesn't understand. They only need a week to get items into theatres. But I have to make everything in a million languages so my production time is longer, plus I have to ship it overseas, plus when it gets overseas it has to ship to local theatres. So that is why I need a minimum of 3 weeks lead time. No one seems to understand this even though I put tons of schedules in front of people. Oh well! I am not worrying about it. I have come to realize that I am a person who likes to change things for the better and a lot of world resists change. So I think I get very discourage when I know there is a better way to do something and no one listens. What can I do? Keep chugging along and hope that one day someone listens. Man I don't know how the President does it? I am sure he suggests a million ideas only to have congress, the senate or the public shoot him down. Anyhoo, that is just a little something that has been on my mind lately.

Now that we got the new car, life has gone back to being normal crazy. Love that new car. It gets 43 miles to a gallon and the car teaches you how to be a better driver. When you are driving good the panel indicates green and when you are driving bad it goes to blue. At the end of the drive it tells you how you performed. I told the hub its like a video game.

Well, its seems that November has once again snuck up on me. Work indicated to us that we will be getting a whole week off from work in between xmas and new years. So my mind is churning and wondering where a gal can go with a week off? Of course my mind said Hawaii but alas, Hawaii won't take Moses!!! They have 3 months quarantine there. How sucky is that? Anyhoo, for once work gave us a lot of advanced notice of our time off. Work wanted to indicate that we wouldn't be getting a work party again this year because of the economic hard times. But they did want to announce that we would instead get two extra days off giving us a whole week off. I was like sweet! Screw the holiday party. Who wouldn't want a week off from work instead of a party? Man, what are they going to do when its not economic hard times? Go back to the parties? All of us workers like getting the time off instead. hehe

Well, off to start my day. Have some grocery shopping, target, macy's and a perhaps a movie in my immediate Sunday future. I just realized I probably should start thinking about Christmas shopping! See life never slows down. always something to do!

Buffalo Wild Wings

When I was going to Michigan State University, my friends and I would always go to BW3's for hot wings. They always had a variety of flavored wings from Honey BBQ to steaming hot, hot, death wings. Wings and a beer were just the thing to satisfy a busy student's appetite. When we frequented BW3's it was a dive bar but by the time my brother graduated from MSU they swapped locations for a building across the street and turned the name to Buffalo Wild Wings and the restaurant became more like a chain thing. Well, color me shocked the other day when we went to the movies and I saw a Buffalo Wild Wings being built in the AMC Burbank 16 complex. Apparently, after looking on their website they are one of the fastest top 10 chains in the US. So of course I had to introduce the hubby to one of my favorite college treats. I don't think he is so much a fan of chicken wings so we got boneless chicken wings a.k.a. tasty little chicken chunks in two of the flavored sauc...

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

The Lost Art of Letter Writing

This week I was the recepient of two postcards. In the age of e-mailing and blogging this is a rare occurrrance. It's not that people don't write anymore it's just they are doing it in different forms and I think in less personal forms. It's kinda sad when you think about it. For me, there is nothing better then getting a hand written letter in the mail because it means someone was specifically thinking about you. Writing a letter these days takes a lot of effort when GMail is so near. I mean a person has to pick out stationary (if they even have any on hand), find time to sit down and compose a letter (and who has a spare half hour these days?), find or buy a stamp and actually walk the letter to the mailbox. With all this effort, no wonder people email these days! My girlfriend Becky and I joke that the United States Postal Service has become "Snail Mail." Most times before a letter gets to us these days we already know the information inside ...
