When Your Time Is Up

Daniel Langdon, Age 36

Gosh, it sure seems like a lot of people have died this year. Of course there were all the high profile celebrities but I swear I am always reading about people who have died and people going to funerals. I realize people pass all the time but this year in particular it seems like the Lord has called a lot of people home. Does 2009 have some death connotation to it? Well, unfortunately this past weekend, I was shocked to learn that one of my classmates in high school lost her husband very suddenly. Her and her husband were high school sweethearts and had 3 young children together. I have been reconnecting with classmates on Facebook so that is how I learned of his passing. I can't even imagine what she is going through! Death is hard enough but to lose your husband so young must be a nightmare. I wouldn't even want to think about life without my hubby. It would seem just impossible. Daniel Langdon was running in the Detroit Marathon this past Sunday when he collapsed at the 11th mile marker and taken to the hospital. What is even more strange is that two additional people also died in that race, a 26 year old man and a 65 year old man. All three seemed to be very active people. I guess at the end of the day we can't change what happened but what we need to do is live every moment to the fullest. You just never know when your time is up. If you are reading this I encourage you to tell the people you care about that you love them today and give them a big hug.

I think this was on the national news? yes? The three people who died within 20 minutes of each other during the race. That is so sad. Sorry for your high school friend. I have a dear friend from college who lost her husband suddenly and totally unexpectedly this year too.

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

Buffalo Wild Wings

When I was going to Michigan State University, my friends and I would always go to BW3's for hot wings. They always had a variety of flavored wings from Honey BBQ to steaming hot, hot, death wings. Wings and a beer were just the thing to satisfy a busy student's appetite. When we frequented BW3's it was a dive bar but by the time my brother graduated from MSU they swapped locations for a building across the street and turned the name to Buffalo Wild Wings and the restaurant became more like a chain thing. Well, color me shocked the other day when we went to the movies and I saw a Buffalo Wild Wings being built in the AMC Burbank 16 complex. Apparently, after looking on their website they are one of the fastest top 10 chains in the US. So of course I had to introduce the hubby to one of my favorite college treats. I don't think he is so much a fan of chicken wings so we got boneless chicken wings a.k.a. tasty little chicken chunks in two of the flavored sauc...

Everyone is Having Kids

Yesterday, one of my roommates from the Burbank years gave birth to a little girl. This is her third child. While I am so completely happy for her this happy celebration has gotten me thinking about children and nosey people who ask me when I am going to have them. Some might think this subject is it too personal for blog talk but I figure if people want to bud into my business by asking me about kids then I can bud into yours by talking about them. I realize that I am physically old enough to have kids but being physically old enough isn't enough for me. Today, as I looked at my friend's blog describing her birthing experience, I realized the only reason I am thinking about children so much lately is because so many darn people are asking me about them. Every single friggin day I run into "Patty" at work. I have known her for a very long time and while I know she was super happy for me when I got married, I am so not happy about her enthusiasm about me having bab...
