Rainy LA Day

California is funny and so are the seasons. Unlike most of the US which can count Fall, Winter and Spring as seasons, California has other kinds of seasons. We have The Rainy Season, The Fire Season, The Mudslide Season and The Earthquake Season or I guess you could say we have natural disaster seasons. I guess, bad traffic and weirdo seasons are the price we have to pay the weather gods for not having Fall, Winter and Spring. I am not complaining. I quite like having varying degrees of summer through out the year but it's way funny when the weather changes drastically in one day because everybody goes ballistic. I am pretty sure the folks in Wisconsin don't call for a weather watch when fall hits their state. But here in kooky LA people freak out at the slightest change. People on Facebook yelling its too hot, its too cold or something to the effect that the weather sucks. I really want to shout out "Chill Out Stupids! You live in friggin CA not Kansas. If you don't like it get the hell out." This past weekend we were in Palm Springs enjoying 80 degree weather and in one day it's pouring rain and 64 degrees. Everyone and their mother is drinking soup and wearing a trendy cardigan. The news outlets all over Los Angeles are screaming about Weather Watch 2009. I take their announcements as the official announcement of a new season. It must be our weird version of fall if the newscasters are calling for Weather Watch '09. I still can't get over how friggin' crazy people get when it rains in LA. With all the fuss you'd think a friggin hurricane was going to hit the city! People it's rain. Rain varies from light to hard. It won't make you melt. God forbid we get big droplets of rain. When we do the city closes down or rather starts to drive really poorly. I really don't get the bad driving thing. It's not like anyone is actually from Los Angeles. So I don't get why they don't know how to drive in rain. Did you people just plain forget?? It's very stressful living in LA when its not summertime, what with the fires and the impending mudslides. I know a lot of people hated today's weather but I loved the change. For the first time in a long time, I slept good last night and as a bonus I got to put on my fluffy sweater, my comfy if not over sized sweatpants and I got to surround myself with big fluffy soft blankets. I even turned on the heat. Yes, summer is over in LA but I for one enjoyed this rainy LA Day. Welcome Fall!

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

My Favorite Gourmet Trucks

As of last night, I have now tried 18 food trucks! Only 60 more to go! My friends, Krueger and Kristy joined me at 55 Degree Wine in Atwar Village to try the always busy Grilled Cheese Truck! I have run into the truck a few times now but something has always prevented me from trying their food. Mostly the really, really long lines!! This time the hour wait wasn't so bad with two girls to gossip with. By the time we got to the front we were ready to execute our food plan. Kristy took lead and placed an order for 3 sandwiches (the brie, the mac-n-cheese and the rib meat) plus the dessert sandwich and some tator tots!!! I was a bit bummed that they didn't have the sandwich I went for, the Harvest sandwich but the 3 sandwiches we got more than made up for everything. I was glad to try this truck with 2 girls because we split the sandiches in 3rds which was awesome because I got to try a variety of their sandwiches. Now I must add the Grilled Cheese Truck to my list of fa...

Surfing Goat Diary

We left the store and headed to the Surfing Goat Diary, again, this was a second trip for us but what was different this time is that we scheduled an hour long tour. Last time we arrive right before closing and were rushed. We spent a fair amount of time there exploring before the tour. We tried their cheesecake, we met the cats and dogs that roamed the place, we played in the playground, we pet and fed the baby goats that were penned up, and pursued the little store. Penny was eager to get her hands on the chocolate goat milk truffles. I must admit they did look good. I had my eyes on a t-shirt and a mug. Our tour started at 3:30pm that day and we met all the goats and learned all about the farm. But the most exciting part of the tour was getting the opportunity to milk the goats. Penny was quite a good milker. A friend later reminded me that Penny was breastfed (wink, wink). By the time the tour ended we were extremely hot. Maui was hot but also humid. We were ready to...
