On The Other Side of the Pond

You go somewhere cool and people want to know how it was. I promise to keep it short people. It was really cool to spend a week working in London. I debated all week whether or not I could live there and I never really came to an answer. Having no sun for really long periods might be an issue for me. I have always thought it would be cool to go live in a different country and experience the culture. If only for a little while. Work had me eating pretty much all lunches and dinners with vendors. I was booked on every tour there was. It was really cool to be on the "other side of the pond" to see what work life is like for our Head Office. I attended their weekly staff meetings. It was neat to see all the materials they gather from us during the week and how they present the materials to our President and higher up executives. I got to be on a video conference call with Japan (our weekly meetings with them are only conference phone calls). The Japanese were excited to see me in this time zone. It was really awesome to go to a vendor and brief them on a French Trailer and sit with an editor and see their process of thinking about what works and doesn't work. I had my mandatory McDonald's dinner with Julie, a co-worker who can appreciate a good double cheeseburger. We had learned while we were in Amsterdam that we both loved McD's cheeseburgers and fries. It was great to go see vendors you only heard of in emails. Even greater to meet people I have know for 5 years but never met in person. As mentioned in my last blog I stayed in a great eclectic hotel. It was one hotel room you could feel comfortable lounging in. It was homey. Of course there was the amazing showers. I had some fabulous food. Ate a Michelin rated French restaurant and had the best steak in London in this cool wine cellar. I was able to do some shopping at their brand new Westfield's Mall, and a little shopping along Oxford Street. I visited the biggest toy story I have ever been in...five stories high. And last but not least had one wonderful touristy day. One of the vendors took my work colleague and his girlfriend and I out to see some of the sites of London. We had brunch at Borough Market, imagine the best farmer's market you have ever been to in your life, then did a little shopping in said market, next took a tour of The Tower of London, walked over the Tower Bridge, took a ferry boat ride to Greenwich, had margaritas and dinner, found the best chocolate truffles, saw Big Ben and the London Eye, walked through China Town and last but not least saw an amazing show at the theatre called Jersey Boys. Absolutely, hands down one of the best shows I have ever seen in the theatre. Overall, it was a great trip!

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

My Favorite Gourmet Trucks

As of last night, I have now tried 18 food trucks! Only 60 more to go! My friends, Krueger and Kristy joined me at 55 Degree Wine in Atwar Village to try the always busy Grilled Cheese Truck! I have run into the truck a few times now but something has always prevented me from trying their food. Mostly the really, really long lines!! This time the hour wait wasn't so bad with two girls to gossip with. By the time we got to the front we were ready to execute our food plan. Kristy took lead and placed an order for 3 sandwiches (the brie, the mac-n-cheese and the rib meat) plus the dessert sandwich and some tator tots!!! I was a bit bummed that they didn't have the sandwich I went for, the Harvest sandwich but the 3 sandwiches we got more than made up for everything. I was glad to try this truck with 2 girls because we split the sandiches in 3rds which was awesome because I got to try a variety of their sandwiches. Now I must add the Grilled Cheese Truck to my list of fa...

Surfing Goat Diary

We left the store and headed to the Surfing Goat Diary, again, this was a second trip for us but what was different this time is that we scheduled an hour long tour. Last time we arrive right before closing and were rushed. We spent a fair amount of time there exploring before the tour. We tried their cheesecake, we met the cats and dogs that roamed the place, we played in the playground, we pet and fed the baby goats that were penned up, and pursued the little store. Penny was eager to get her hands on the chocolate goat milk truffles. I must admit they did look good. I had my eyes on a t-shirt and a mug. Our tour started at 3:30pm that day and we met all the goats and learned all about the farm. But the most exciting part of the tour was getting the opportunity to milk the goats. Penny was quite a good milker. A friend later reminded me that Penny was breastfed (wink, wink). By the time the tour ended we were extremely hot. Maui was hot but also humid. We were ready to...
