A Traditional Afternoon of High Tea - Disney Style

Our fourth and last day before setting sail on our Disney Cruise was spent taking it easy. We slept in a bit and then, since we had reservations at The Grand Floridian for Afternoon High Tea at 2pm, the hub and I decided to chill by the pool. The pool at the Beach Club Resort is pretty awesome. It has a sandy bottom and tons of slides and other fun things. We were still kind of feeling under the weather so basically we didn't go in any of the pools but rather passed out on chairs. We basically slept until it was time to go back to the hotel to get ready for tea. We were not feeling particularly good but made the effort to go because we love tea. Again, the hubby had to push me to get going. High Tea at the Grand Floridian was amazing and one of my favorite things about the trip and must to do again and again on future trips. With not much of an appetite, I forced myself to eat as much of the really yummy scones, beautiful strawberries and cream and tasty Lemon Pound Cake as I could. We decided to order ala carte due to our appetites. But I would have loved to ordered the several courses of Champaign and scones and sandwiches, etc. that other tables were partaking in. Along with our food, I ordered a pot of Chamomile Tea. The hub ordered an Earl Grey Tea. My tea came infuser style and the hub's came with a tea cozy. I like tea a lot but I had never seen a tea cozy before. If I was feeling better I might of made plans to steal the velvety looking cozy that kept my hubby's tea warm. Everything was truly elegant. China was used and I wanted to steal that as well. I constantly thought of my Grandma Konenski and wished she could be there as she would have loved it. When I was little we used to have the most fabulous tea parties. She would have really enjoyed that afternoon. In fact I know several ladies in my family who would have loved it. Anyway, the room in which they normally do the tea was closed that day so they had the tea in one of the resort's cafes which I thought was perfectly lovely substitution. I saw the place where they normally have tea and I was actually glad they had moved it. We sat in the back section of a huge resort cafe so everything was intimate. The room we sat in was decorated in English and Victorian styles. Just perfect for tea I thought. The room was mostly filled with groups of women. There was a group of elderly women, a three-generation of women table (grandmom, mom and kid), there was girlfriend's only table and then there were a few, I can only imagine, husband and wife tables. I had fun watching the three generation table which was seated next to us. A little girl of five was dressed in an Alice in Wonderland dress. I thought if I had a little girl I would put her in that very dress. It was very cute. I think the ladies thought there would be characters at this tea as we overheard them asking the waitress. The waitress explanded that this was a traditional English Afternoon High Tea. We detected a bit of annoyance in her voice as she basically stated that this was an adult tea. The little girl for her age, acted pretty well. It was hilarious watching her annoy the hell out of the waitress. The waitress who was also our waitress was perfectly nice to us but was pretty snotty to the mom and daughter at this table. It was obvious she wasn't child friendly. My favorite voyeur moment was when the waitress told the little girl to "look only" at the tray of deserts, only to have the little girl grab a chocolate covered strawberry. I couldn't blame the girl. I would have grabbed one too. The waitress was soooo mad. Suffice to say, High Tea was highly entertaining. Whenever I get my backyard going I am having the girls over for a high tea. After tea, I was feeling a bit better but the hub really wasn't. We went to the Magic Kingdom but only stayed for an hour before returning to the hotel. We caught up with everyone else in Faith's room. The hub and I were supposed to go to a fancy dinner but since we were totally full we instead stayed in the hotel. I never spent so much time in a hotel on a vacation. Eve though we were sick it was very nice to relax in such nice accomodations. Later that evening I was feeling like my old self again. And I was actually really hungry so I used a ton of meal credits on room service and ordered way too much food. Not sure why but I was craving cheese. I got myself a pizza and a bowl of fruit and a salad and settled in to watch LOST. It was actaully, I thought a very nice evening. For someone who is always on the go. Sitting in bed eating a pizza is next to heaven! So that is how we spent our last evening in Orlando. The next day we were going on The Disney Wonder and setting sail for the Bahamas.

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

My Favorite Gourmet Trucks

As of last night, I have now tried 18 food trucks! Only 60 more to go! My friends, Krueger and Kristy joined me at 55 Degree Wine in Atwar Village to try the always busy Grilled Cheese Truck! I have run into the truck a few times now but something has always prevented me from trying their food. Mostly the really, really long lines!! This time the hour wait wasn't so bad with two girls to gossip with. By the time we got to the front we were ready to execute our food plan. Kristy took lead and placed an order for 3 sandwiches (the brie, the mac-n-cheese and the rib meat) plus the dessert sandwich and some tator tots!!! I was a bit bummed that they didn't have the sandwich I went for, the Harvest sandwich but the 3 sandwiches we got more than made up for everything. I was glad to try this truck with 2 girls because we split the sandiches in 3rds which was awesome because I got to try a variety of their sandwiches. Now I must add the Grilled Cheese Truck to my list of fa...

7th Birthday

Mark ur calendars, Dec 12 is an awesome day to go to Disneyland! There was no one at the park yesterday morning. We had 3 amazing hours 8am to 11am to ride! Some Disneyland records we set yesterday:  ✅A After many years, we finally got a wristband (and bought) a giant Disneyland candy cane.  ✅F First people on pirates of the carribean.  ✅ Line for Indiana Jones was 10 minutes long  😳  This never happens and we sat next to the people (strangers) who sat next to us on pirates b ut we did not walk over to the ride with them. ✅ By a fluke, we were also the first people on Big Thunder Mountain and kiddo rode in the cart by herself! (They opened late and we were in the right spot) ✅Kiddo  rode front seat on Matterhorn because a kind guy, his first visit, said he was too tall to sit in front and she wouldn’t be able to see sitting behind him ✅ Prode space mountain for the first time and huffed that it wasn’t scary and it was no IncrediCoaster. And the line...
