Slumdog Millionaire

Just watched this movie tonight at the studio theatre and it is one of the best movies I have seen this year! I had read about the film when I was in Europe a few weeks ago as its been playing big at festivals and I remember wanting to see it when it came to the States. All of the sudden the buzz has gotten really big here in Hollywood this past week after the Golden Globe Nominations came out (it's up for best picture). I knew I was in for a good film when after working late, I arrived at the theatre and "the page" was counting heads in a line outside. Luckily, my friend and I were one of the last people to get in. We totally lucked out when this guy moved over creating two seats next to each other. A second later "the page" was telling everyone who didn't have a seat to leave and the film started. I have never seen that theatre completely full so I knew I was in for a treat. Sure enough the film didn't disappoint. I was surprised to find out that Danny Boyle directed the film. I took a British film class in college and he was one of the director's who we studied. The movie for those of you not familiar with it is about this boy, who after growing up in poverty in India finds himself on India's version of "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" and is accused of cheating for knowing too many right answers. Check out Roger Ebert's review for more information. I am not sure if this film is in wide release yet but go check it out even though it's distributed by my competitor, that other studio across town.

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

Surfing Goat Diary

We left the store and headed to the Surfing Goat Diary, again, this was a second trip for us but what was different this time is that we scheduled an hour long tour. Last time we arrive right before closing and were rushed. We spent a fair amount of time there exploring before the tour. We tried their cheesecake, we met the cats and dogs that roamed the place, we played in the playground, we pet and fed the baby goats that were penned up, and pursued the little store. Penny was eager to get her hands on the chocolate goat milk truffles. I must admit they did look good. I had my eyes on a t-shirt and a mug. Our tour started at 3:30pm that day and we met all the goats and learned all about the farm. But the most exciting part of the tour was getting the opportunity to milk the goats. Penny was quite a good milker. A friend later reminded me that Penny was breastfed (wink, wink). By the time the tour ended we were extremely hot. Maui was hot but also humid. We were ready to...

Vaccine Part 1

As a little girl I would look on my mom’s arm and wonder why she had such a weird mark near her shoulder. A few days ago, as the warm solution penetrated my bloodstream, I started to cry remembering my mom’s mark. The nurse asked me if I was okay and I told her I was so incredibly happy. As a diabetic I was stressed never knowing if I was doing enough to avoid it but also, keeping some semblance of life in doing outdoor things. I cried because I am incredibly grateful to the SCIENCE that made this possible in only a year. Less time for me to worry about my only kiddo should the worse happen.  If ur on the fence...I’ve worked in entertainment for over 20 years and I’ve seen first hand how easy celebrities influence the public.  Some do good and others well...I’m happy to have a little bit of the gracious Dolly Parton with me.  Scientists on the other hand, very rarely get the recognition for their years of study, years of research and expertise contributing to (wo)mankind....
