I Need to Get Thin in 27 Days!

Well, I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas! I know I sure did. In fact, I had 5 of them! Here are the recaps on all five celebrations:

1. Santa's visit to 6th Street (Christmas Eve) - Well, my three-year-old nephew, Clayton must have been a very good boy this year as he got a whole slew of presents and boy did he ever enjoy ripping off the paper on the presents. The highlight of this Christmas was the Walle and Eve robots from the Disney film Walle he received. The adults even enjoyed these toys.

2. A Very Merry Rusca Christmas (Christmas Day) - This celebration involved the hub's step-dad and his family (brothers and sisters join the grandparents) for a potluck dinner celebration. The three highlights were Grandma Berts' tamales, Louie's medicine and of course, the annual white elephant ($40-$60) gift exchange. I had 2 bottles of liquor stolen from me until I ended up with a lovely bottle of vodka. The hub ended up with a bottle of liquor too.

3. Internal Christmas (Christmas Day, evening) - This is where we open presents with the hub's immediate family such as his parents, brother and family and presents the hub and I got each other. Gift highlights: The bottle of perfume named after me which I found in Paris and which the hub remembered me liking. A brand new camera just in time for our trip to DisneyWorld in January. An iTouch for the hub. And we both got this cool movie projector for our backyard and some spending money for our Disney trip. I also got this super cool map from the hub. He made this map of our house and put a big x on the map. I had to wait till I got home and search our house for the present. He sure knows how to come up with cool surprises.

4. Gift Bags O'Plenty (Day after Christmas) was a surprise get together. The hub's step-mom planned this Walt Disney World trip for all of us in January as our Christmas gift and also to celebrate our nephew's first trip to Walt Disney World. Well, actually it's his second trip, as he was in my sister-in-law's belly once before. hehe When we got to Sanger we called her up and scheduled a time for her and the hub's dad to come over to talk about the trip. You see, the hub's entire family is going including his mom and step-dad. Talk about good family relations!! Anyhoo, I guess the hub's dad has good taste in picking out amazing ladies. Brian's mum made a ton of food for the impromptu meeting. But the meeting totally turned into another holiday party. Now the gift bags o'plenty factored in when the hub's step-mom brought each of us two separate gift bags but both Disney themed related. I am not even sure where to begin in describing the gift bags other then to say they were totally and completely amazing! She had t-shirts made that had our names on them. 3 different ones!!! The bags had other goodies in them too. I was jealous the super cute backpack that our little nephew received. I couldn't believe all the work that must have went into these bags and how incredibly thoughtful they were!!! Anyhoo, after looking through the bags everyone was just dying to go to Disney. Clayton said it best "I want to go tonight momma!"

5. The fifth and last Christmas (Day After, the Day After Christmas, evening) is one we we always do with the hub's mom's family. After a yummy dinner and gift exchange our normally quiet celebration turned into WW wrestling!!! Clayton went at it with Austin and Alan went at it with Christian. I stayed on the sidelines and played barbies and transformers with the totally sweet Madison. She had gotten a purple barbie corvette and I must say I had always wanted one of those when I was little.

With 5 action packed Christmas' I wasn't sure how we had time for anything else but we did manage to see the hub's cousin's new house which I am totally jealous of their brand new kitchen with lovely new granite counters! And we also had a very nice lunch with his Grandma. Now it's back to a light work week, counting the days till the Disney trip/cruise and also, trying to lose as much weight as possible so I can put on a bathing suit and not have someone yell "Whale!!"

Maybe I need to marry a Buller or a Rusca as well. So much fun and joy in the Holidays.
Well, you know you are always welcome to come to Sanger with us anytime we go. Though no one wants to come with us anymore now that we are married.

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

Buffalo Wild Wings

When I was going to Michigan State University, my friends and I would always go to BW3's for hot wings. They always had a variety of flavored wings from Honey BBQ to steaming hot, hot, death wings. Wings and a beer were just the thing to satisfy a busy student's appetite. When we frequented BW3's it was a dive bar but by the time my brother graduated from MSU they swapped locations for a building across the street and turned the name to Buffalo Wild Wings and the restaurant became more like a chain thing. Well, color me shocked the other day when we went to the movies and I saw a Buffalo Wild Wings being built in the AMC Burbank 16 complex. Apparently, after looking on their website they are one of the fastest top 10 chains in the US. So of course I had to introduce the hubby to one of my favorite college treats. I don't think he is so much a fan of chicken wings so we got boneless chicken wings a.k.a. tasty little chicken chunks in two of the flavored sauc...

The Lost Art of Letter Writing

This week I was the recepient of two postcards. In the age of e-mailing and blogging this is a rare occurrrance. It's not that people don't write anymore it's just they are doing it in different forms and I think in less personal forms. It's kinda sad when you think about it. For me, there is nothing better then getting a hand written letter in the mail because it means someone was specifically thinking about you. Writing a letter these days takes a lot of effort when GMail is so near. I mean a person has to pick out stationary (if they even have any on hand), find time to sit down and compose a letter (and who has a spare half hour these days?), find or buy a stamp and actually walk the letter to the mailbox. With all this effort, no wonder people email these days! My girlfriend Becky and I joke that the United States Postal Service has become "Snail Mail." Most times before a letter gets to us these days we already know the information inside ...
