Exciting Week

It started with politics, moved to Madonna and ended with a basketball game! The Hub and I were lucky when it came to voting. We didn't have to wait in line at all. We got to our polling station at about 8AM and we were done in 15 minutes. I thought I'd be late to work but arrived on time. I came home later that night to find the hub watching the returns. We were glued to the TV until 8PM when they made the call. I was very glad to learn Barack Obama was elected President. I loved how he brought his family out and made it seem like we were sending this cute all-American family to the White House. I believe he is sincere and means to do well. I enjoyed the speech he gave and felt inspired by it. I think the reason people like him so much is that he seems like a genuine nice guy. I am sure once he gets to Washington there are promises to be made but I just get the feeling that he will try his hardest to set this country back on course. We will see.

Anyhoo, enough politics for now. After the excitement of Tuesday, I joined Caroline for a little bit of fun on Thursday. The minute I had heard Madonna was doing another tour, I knew I had to go. So the day the tickets went on sale I bought two seats. Surprisingly, I haven't been to very many concerts in my life. I didn't grow up with MTV like most kids so I don't know much about music. I know songs I like and I know some artists but its hard for me to match up artists to their songs. That is except for Madonna. That Material Girl is one of a kind. There is something cool about how she reinvents herself over and over and over. The concert was at Dodger Stadium and Caroline and I rushed to get there. Turns out we didn't have to rush as Madge didn't go on till 10PM, um that is 2 1/2 hours after the time listed on the ticket. I have heard she goes on late but 10PM was almost my bedtime! The show was great. She sang new and old songs though she doesn't ever want to sing the song that made her famous. The old songs she sang were remixed so it was like we were hearing old but new favorites. I liked what she did and it goes to show if you write a good song you can sing it many different ways. There were two surprises in the show. Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake showed up to sing. It was very exciting to see them come on stage (they came separately and two different songs). Caroline and I had a blast until it was time to leave. Although thought we remember where we parked we couldn't find the car! We walked around for the longest time trying to find my car. A lot of people were in the same boat. It was complete chaos in the parking lot. The show ended at midnight and we didn't get home till 1AM and I only live 2-3 miles from the stadium.

Friday night, the hub and I headed to the local bar. Sanger has the "O" and we have the "York." We live in an up an coming part of LA. All the up-n-comers need a place to hang out so they remodeled a building and made it a hip place for the over 30 crowd. I really like the York, with it's clean lines and modern architecture its a cool place to hang out. Speaking of beer, I find it odd that I never liked beer in my 20's but suddenly find myself not getting enough of it. It's like my taste buds have changed and all of the sudden, I like beer. Caroline and I were talking about this at the concert and she too has been drinking a lot of beers. Does something happens to a woman in her 30's that makes us like beer when we haven't previously? Maybe I have just reach a point where I have drunk enough of the stuff that the sour taste doesn't bother me anymore?

Saturday, we did our grocery shopping and then headed to the mall to get our neighbor a gift. Thank the Lord, our neighbor went and talked to the barking dog neighbor and miracles of all miracles the dog shut up. After experiencing a week of peace we thought it would be nice to get them a thank you. Later that day we met up with the Bosgul in Hollywood at a local amateur theatre to see the comedic show HISTRIONICS. The hub's buddy at work was starring in the show. Apparently, one of the Hub's favorite things to do in Sanger was go and watch amateur theatre. Since I also like theatre we to check it out. The show consisted of 6 short acts that took place during a historical moment in history. For instance, one act had this crazy British couple vacationing on Normandy Beach during the fateful day the Americans stormed the beach. It wasn't an award winner but it was enjoyable and had some laughs. After the show, the four of us went to this crazy karoeke bar on Sunset. We got some dinner and listen to these couples sing chinese music.

Today, we meet up with the Bosgul again. Our friend, Charlie and his wife, Kristi were in town from Seattle and all of us got together with Krueger, Kevin, Jane and that whole group of friends. I sat next to Jane's boyfriend, who turned out to be a cool guy to sit next to with all his stories. One of his stories made me feel better about this hotel voucher scam that happened to me this week. Luckily, I only lost $50 bucks compared to this guy's mom who lost $30K on an African Safari trip. Unluckily for her, she ended up with a tour guide who was in the bush too long and went crazy during her trip. The story is too long to tell but let's just say, I am glad I ran into him because I feel a whole lot better about what happened to me.

We had to leave the lunch early to go to a basketball game at the Staples Center. The Bosgul, Hub and I went to see the LA Clippers play the Dallas Mavericks. This is only my second Clippers game and I realized why it's been a while since my first game. The Clippers fans are the saddest people in LA! First of all there was low fan turn out. And secondly, those that turn out don't cheer. Luckily, I was with a group who liked to cheer a lot and guess what? It made a difference, the Clippers actually won the game!! All this team needs is some encouragement as they seemed to pep up a lot when we started to cheer.

Anyhoo, that was my week in review. Now to take care of some chores before the week restarts once again.

Buffalo Wild Wings

When I was going to Michigan State University, my friends and I would always go to BW3's for hot wings. They always had a variety of flavored wings from Honey BBQ to steaming hot, hot, death wings. Wings and a beer were just the thing to satisfy a busy student's appetite. When we frequented BW3's it was a dive bar but by the time my brother graduated from MSU they swapped locations for a building across the street and turned the name to Buffalo Wild Wings and the restaurant became more like a chain thing. Well, color me shocked the other day when we went to the movies and I saw a Buffalo Wild Wings being built in the AMC Burbank 16 complex. Apparently, after looking on their website they are one of the fastest top 10 chains in the US. So of course I had to introduce the hubby to one of my favorite college treats. I don't think he is so much a fan of chicken wings so we got boneless chicken wings a.k.a. tasty little chicken chunks in two of the flavored sauc...

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

The Lost Art of Letter Writing

This week I was the recepient of two postcards. In the age of e-mailing and blogging this is a rare occurrrance. It's not that people don't write anymore it's just they are doing it in different forms and I think in less personal forms. It's kinda sad when you think about it. For me, there is nothing better then getting a hand written letter in the mail because it means someone was specifically thinking about you. Writing a letter these days takes a lot of effort when GMail is so near. I mean a person has to pick out stationary (if they even have any on hand), find time to sit down and compose a letter (and who has a spare half hour these days?), find or buy a stamp and actually walk the letter to the mailbox. With all this effort, no wonder people email these days! My girlfriend Becky and I joke that the United States Postal Service has become "Snail Mail." Most times before a letter gets to us these days we already know the information inside ...
