There is Something in our Backyard

So this weekend Neil and Rosemary came for a second time to help with the backyard landscaping. Thank goodness they came because I am not sure I could have done all that work by myself. In fact I know i couldn't have because I felt like I was hardly any help compare to the Buller boys and we all know Rosemary can move stuff (Remember the story of when she picked up Montez?).

I must say its been great having a "Hercules" around a.k.a. Neil. Not that my hubby isn't strong but Neil's got those strong arms. We couldn't stop laughing about Neil's strength for a good 5 minutes after digging in a flower bed and finding an old metal sprinkler pipe. Brian went to grab a pick axe but Neil stuck his hand in the ground and ripped the sucker right out of the ground! We couldn't stop laughing at how easy it was for Neil.

Brian was telling his buddy at work all the cool treasures we have found in our backyard(old peanut butter barrel, old marbles, jars and canisters, even, old stones and pavers, not to mention a dead guy called RP). In response to the dead guy, his buddy said all he found was abestos in his yard.

As for the dead guy, that is a joke. We found a cement rectangle that had the initials RP a.k.a. "Real Person" or "Random Person." At first we thought it was a dog or animal, then a time capsule waiting with old stocks and then we were like what if it is a person? Pretty much all kinds of possibilities went through our head. After looking at it more this weekend, we found a little circular hole in the head of the rectangle (a place for flowers I thought?) and the guys thought it could just be a close line cement post that someone put their initials in after looking across the way into our neighbors yard and seeing an old clothes line. Anyhoo, that little piece of cement has been the topic of many conversations over the past few weeks. Who knows what it is but our guests can have fun figuring out when they come over.

I do hesitate to move the cement because if it is an animal I would want it to rest in peace so I think we will leave it as is and let people guess. Besides findign weird stuff, I feel visually like we got a lot done and it's all starting to come together! I am starting to get excited about all the possible parties I can throw.

We completed a flower bed, started the pergula, bought fencing, bought a ton of plants and flowers and built a really cool bench. I need to take some pictures tonight to document our progress.

Our backyard looks totally different from when we first bought the place. I must say this owning property thing is pretty cool. It's fun fixing stuff up and making it useful once again!

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

Surfing Goat Diary

We left the store and headed to the Surfing Goat Diary, again, this was a second trip for us but what was different this time is that we scheduled an hour long tour. Last time we arrive right before closing and were rushed. We spent a fair amount of time there exploring before the tour. We tried their cheesecake, we met the cats and dogs that roamed the place, we played in the playground, we pet and fed the baby goats that were penned up, and pursued the little store. Penny was eager to get her hands on the chocolate goat milk truffles. I must admit they did look good. I had my eyes on a t-shirt and a mug. Our tour started at 3:30pm that day and we met all the goats and learned all about the farm. But the most exciting part of the tour was getting the opportunity to milk the goats. Penny was quite a good milker. A friend later reminded me that Penny was breastfed (wink, wink). By the time the tour ended we were extremely hot. Maui was hot but also humid. We were ready to...

Vaccine Part 1

As a little girl I would look on my mom’s arm and wonder why she had such a weird mark near her shoulder. A few days ago, as the warm solution penetrated my bloodstream, I started to cry remembering my mom’s mark. The nurse asked me if I was okay and I told her I was so incredibly happy. As a diabetic I was stressed never knowing if I was doing enough to avoid it but also, keeping some semblance of life in doing outdoor things. I cried because I am incredibly grateful to the SCIENCE that made this possible in only a year. Less time for me to worry about my only kiddo should the worse happen.  If ur on the fence...I’ve worked in entertainment for over 20 years and I’ve seen first hand how easy celebrities influence the public.  Some do good and others well...I’m happy to have a little bit of the gracious Dolly Parton with me.  Scientists on the other hand, very rarely get the recognition for their years of study, years of research and expertise contributing to (wo)mankind....
