You're Going, Not Going, Going?

For months now work has been trying to send me overseas to check out a printer in Vienna, Austria. As you can gather from the title of this blog, it's been a long journey. The trip was on and off for months and then the trip was merged with a convention trip in June. As of this past Friday, per corporate, my trip was cancelled because they felt it was not ok for a vendor to pay my way. They saw the plane ticket as a big ole gift and thus a conflict of interest. I wasn't really mad as much as tired of being on the rollar coaster of it's on and it's off.

As of yesterday, I was greenlighted to go to the convention in Amsterdam, Netherlands via good ole corporate cash (apparently my trip was accounted for in our yearly budget) and today, my luck must have held out because I am now tacking on the vendor visit as well (seems they found more cash in the budget). The actual tickets are not purchased yet but I am told I should be good (we'll see). My boss really wants me to attend the convention so I am pretty sure at least that portion of the trip will happen. I do hope I get to go to both places as I have not been anywhere in Europe except England and I am actually pretty geeked about the convention as it is a big event I have never taken part of except to make materials for.

I read my horoscope yesterday and it said that "oddly" I would spend most of the month alone. "Oddly" the horoscope was correct. The hub ended his gig last Friday and now he is back on nights for a few weeks until he starts his new daytime gig on June 30th. With me going to Europe for almost two weeks I won't be seeing the hub before I leave. We have part of this Saturday and Sunday and then I won't see him until I get home on the 28th and the minute I get off the plane we are off to a friend's wedding and reception.

Suffice to say, I am looking forward to our mini getaway to Vegas over the Fourth of July. One of our pals is having movie night in the Vegas house he is renting. We have booked a room at Red Rock for the weekend. Red Rock isn't located on the strip and appears to be an oasis of fun away from the madness of crazy Vegas. With the girls trip planned for August I am totally cool to hang out at Red Rock and enjoy the fancy restaurants and bars. They even have a ton of outdoor activities that look cool. With a movie theatre, a rockin' pool area and not to mention a spa, I can't wait for my stay at the Red Rock to begin! "Oddly" I plan to spend a bunch of time with the hub.

Well, since I am sure the hub will read this more then speak to me this month, I hope readers don't mind me taking a moment to converse with the hubby.

Hubby: "I love u" and I hope you decide to make the peach cobbler tomorrow.

Finally, can anyone recommend some good Wii games? We got a Wii this past weekend and it is the most incredible toy ever! I haven't played video games since Nintendo (as in the original) and totally love, love, love the Wii! The best thing about it is you can totally suck (which believe me I do) and still have the confidence to play a million games. I love this concept plus you get some exercise bouncing around the living moving the various controllers. Not having to be good has just made me a player again! My first game is one that Toby taught me to play called Cooking Mama Cookoff. You basically get point making these recipes. Anyhoo, need some recommendations because I am itching to go to Best Buy to get some new games. Like I wonder if they still have Super Mario Brothers or Frogger?? I really want to try this Lego Indiana Jones game. Another cool thing about the Wii is that you can make these characters. You can pick out all their features from their eye color to their weight. I made a mini Lolipop and the hubby made a mini him and then we made a mini Caroline and a mini Steve Rusca (which "oddly" looks just like him down to the hair) and we made a mini clayton. I am trying to decide who to make next. You can make 100 different mini people to use in various games you play. Heck, its a game just making mini characters. Well, off to play some video games. "Oddly" I haven't said that in over 15 years!

Buffalo Wild Wings

When I was going to Michigan State University, my friends and I would always go to BW3's for hot wings. They always had a variety of flavored wings from Honey BBQ to steaming hot, hot, death wings. Wings and a beer were just the thing to satisfy a busy student's appetite. When we frequented BW3's it was a dive bar but by the time my brother graduated from MSU they swapped locations for a building across the street and turned the name to Buffalo Wild Wings and the restaurant became more like a chain thing. Well, color me shocked the other day when we went to the movies and I saw a Buffalo Wild Wings being built in the AMC Burbank 16 complex. Apparently, after looking on their website they are one of the fastest top 10 chains in the US. So of course I had to introduce the hubby to one of my favorite college treats. I don't think he is so much a fan of chicken wings so we got boneless chicken wings a.k.a. tasty little chicken chunks in two of the flavored sauc...

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

The Lost Art of Letter Writing

This week I was the recepient of two postcards. In the age of e-mailing and blogging this is a rare occurrrance. It's not that people don't write anymore it's just they are doing it in different forms and I think in less personal forms. It's kinda sad when you think about it. For me, there is nothing better then getting a hand written letter in the mail because it means someone was specifically thinking about you. Writing a letter these days takes a lot of effort when GMail is so near. I mean a person has to pick out stationary (if they even have any on hand), find time to sit down and compose a letter (and who has a spare half hour these days?), find or buy a stamp and actually walk the letter to the mailbox. With all this effort, no wonder people email these days! My girlfriend Becky and I joke that the United States Postal Service has become "Snail Mail." Most times before a letter gets to us these days we already know the information inside ...
