Duex Birthday Parties

This week two dear friends of Brokencandy celebrate their b-days. Normally they each have a big birthday bashes on the same Saturday Night each year. But this time around El Jefe had his birthday first which made me so happy because two birthdays epecially when they are good friends on the same night is hard to do!

Friday night Brian and I went to Beverly Hills to the Tower Hotel Bar to celebrate Jeff 3.0. As you know Jeff is a man of many jobs and he had just recently worked at the hotel's bar as a bartender so he decided to have his party at his old place which was a good choice. The place wasn't crowded and it was cool just to sit in bar scene and actually hear the conversations around you. We were the first to arrive. Luckily Brian got a ride to my work from a co-worker and then we could go directly to the party which is why we arrived so early. It was good though because I got to catch up with Jeff for a little bit before all his friends showed up. It was nice to see everyone and meet new people. Jeff is always meeting new people so you never know who will be at his parties. The favorite thing to ask people at his parties is "How did you meet?" You are sure to get a good story. My story is "he stalked me in a mall." This year he had two gals who were on the show "Survivor" at the party. They were both on the Vanuatu Season together. It's so weird to see people on TV and then in real life. I kinda wanted to just poke them to see if they were real! Julie and LeAnne seemed like pretty nice girls. I totally could have accosted them and bombarded them with questions about what it was like being on the show but I decided not to. I never know if celebrities like to be asked about their work all the time so I just let it be. Brian and I had a good time. It was nice to be amongst people our age enjoying conversation and drinks.

Friday was actually the second night in a row we saw some friends. Thursday night Lisa joined us at BJ's for drinks and dinner.
She's been busy dating up a storm. I am totally glad I don't have to date people anymore! What a crazy things you have to go through these days.

Yesterday, Brian and I had to make a trip to Lowe's to buy odds and ends to make some curtain rods. We had gone to Orange Country last weekend for some shopping and we ended up buying some curtains for our bedroom. In keeping with our ocean/beach theme for our bedroom we bought two bamboo poles, a corner connector, some wall connectors and a few other things so we could make homemade bamboo curtain rods. Brian's task this weekend is to make and hang the rod. I so can't wait to not have the sun wake me up anymore!

After Lowe's and because it was blooming hot we went to see the Narnia Prince Caspian thing. It was pretty good film but not as developed as the first film (character wise) but it was still a good flick to get out of the house to see. Tomorrow I get to see the most anticipated film of the year at work. I really, really hope it's good because I have been working my tail off on it for months now.

Buffalo Wild Wings

When I was going to Michigan State University, my friends and I would always go to BW3's for hot wings. They always had a variety of flavored wings from Honey BBQ to steaming hot, hot, death wings. Wings and a beer were just the thing to satisfy a busy student's appetite. When we frequented BW3's it was a dive bar but by the time my brother graduated from MSU they swapped locations for a building across the street and turned the name to Buffalo Wild Wings and the restaurant became more like a chain thing. Well, color me shocked the other day when we went to the movies and I saw a Buffalo Wild Wings being built in the AMC Burbank 16 complex. Apparently, after looking on their website they are one of the fastest top 10 chains in the US. So of course I had to introduce the hubby to one of my favorite college treats. I don't think he is so much a fan of chicken wings so we got boneless chicken wings a.k.a. tasty little chicken chunks in two of the flavored sauc...

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

The Lost Art of Letter Writing

This week I was the recepient of two postcards. In the age of e-mailing and blogging this is a rare occurrrance. It's not that people don't write anymore it's just they are doing it in different forms and I think in less personal forms. It's kinda sad when you think about it. For me, there is nothing better then getting a hand written letter in the mail because it means someone was specifically thinking about you. Writing a letter these days takes a lot of effort when GMail is so near. I mean a person has to pick out stationary (if they even have any on hand), find time to sit down and compose a letter (and who has a spare half hour these days?), find or buy a stamp and actually walk the letter to the mailbox. With all this effort, no wonder people email these days! My girlfriend Becky and I joke that the United States Postal Service has become "Snail Mail." Most times before a letter gets to us these days we already know the information inside ...
