A Disney Convention

I think by this point, it's pretty well established that we are a Disney family.  So naturally, we needed to attend the bi-annual D23 Expo in Anaheim when it came to town at the Anaheim Convention Center.  I took two days off from work.  Kiddo and I headed down a day before it started to have ourselves a Pool Day at the Hotel.   I don't think I have ever stayed at a hotel so much to say I am a fan but I consider myself a fan of the Mariott Convention Center Hotel.   Their customer service is outstanding, I love their pool, the rooms are nice and clean and the food at the restaurants is really good for what it is.  So it was a no brainer that we stay there. It helped that a deal came up on Trip Advisor that I snagged that saved me a ton of money then booking directly with Mariott.

This summer I had a couple of movies to work on so I didn't have a carefree summer like the last two.  So it was important for me to find time to spend with kiddo even though it wasn't as much as the last two summers.  So we made a mini trip out of this event.

I think it can be said that kiddo likes to stay in hotels as much as me.  She also loves to lounge by the pool and I think I may have gotten her to come to expect ordering food by the pool.   Sorry to her future husband.   But its little things that I love in life so its fun to do them with my daughter who appreciates it as much as I do.

Upon arrival.  Driving to park my car at the hotel.  Our hotel was across the way from the Convention Center, very convenient.

we got to the hotel at 11am and luckily they let us check in and upgraded us to a pool visit.  This is the second time we have checked into a hotel at 11am and have been upgraded. I need to remember this for future trips.

Fun times in a floaty

Our old neighbors live by DL so they came for a visit.

Us 5 girls had a great time!

After an afternoon of swimming we were hungry.  I told them the best place to go wasn't busy Downtown Disney but Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles.

They had never been so were eager to try.

Their dad showed up and we all ate.  No one was disappointed.

People started to line up the day before.  After dinner we decided to check out the crowds.

Dad came after work on Thursday and he camped out. Kiddo and I woke at 5am and got a place in line. She did extremely well with lines. She was a good sport for the amount of waiting in line we had to do over the course of 3 days.

A friend and I met in the Lularoe line.

Scrooged McDuck's Money Pit

I got a message from a work friend that his friend is a Johnny Depp Impersonator. He said to look out for him. I can't believe withe the 80,000 people there I ran into him. Of course, I had to get a picture.

Jumping into the money pit.

After a lot of conventioning, we finally met up with Daddy and we went back to the hotel to drop off our purchases and then we had a nice long lunch.

We ran into Mary Poppins in London

I'm a big Disney fan but I am not sure I would drive this Honda around. The Bow is a bit much. lol.

My turn to wait overnight.  I really wanted to see the live action panel. So I got in line at 2am.  I slept on concrete. But it paid off. I got in and saw Disney's next 3 years of films.  Mary Poppins looks great. The Lion King by John Fav is so amazing and Avengers Infinity looks so good!

The Pixar Booth. We finally got balls this time!

Watching a guy making Disney foam art. He made I lava you art.

50 years of Pirates.  And Kiddo got in the prison.

Breakfast squeeze.

Buffalo Wild Wings

When I was going to Michigan State University, my friends and I would always go to BW3's for hot wings. They always had a variety of flavored wings from Honey BBQ to steaming hot, hot, death wings. Wings and a beer were just the thing to satisfy a busy student's appetite. When we frequented BW3's it was a dive bar but by the time my brother graduated from MSU they swapped locations for a building across the street and turned the name to Buffalo Wild Wings and the restaurant became more like a chain thing. Well, color me shocked the other day when we went to the movies and I saw a Buffalo Wild Wings being built in the AMC Burbank 16 complex. Apparently, after looking on their website they are one of the fastest top 10 chains in the US. So of course I had to introduce the hubby to one of my favorite college treats. I don't think he is so much a fan of chicken wings so we got boneless chicken wings a.k.a. tasty little chicken chunks in two of the flavored sauc...

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

The Lost Art of Letter Writing

This week I was the recepient of two postcards. In the age of e-mailing and blogging this is a rare occurrrance. It's not that people don't write anymore it's just they are doing it in different forms and I think in less personal forms. It's kinda sad when you think about it. For me, there is nothing better then getting a hand written letter in the mail because it means someone was specifically thinking about you. Writing a letter these days takes a lot of effort when GMail is so near. I mean a person has to pick out stationary (if they even have any on hand), find time to sit down and compose a letter (and who has a spare half hour these days?), find or buy a stamp and actually walk the letter to the mailbox. With all this effort, no wonder people email these days! My girlfriend Becky and I joke that the United States Postal Service has become "Snail Mail." Most times before a letter gets to us these days we already know the information inside ...
