Happy 10-Year Anniversary, Hubby!

Wow!  It doesn't seem like it's been 10 years since we were married in Maui at The Olowalu Plantation on March 13, 2007 but sure enough, it has been.  So grateful to spend these last 10-years with my gem, my prince!  We bought a house, adopted a dog, birthed a daughter and have had so many fun adventures, all the while doing what we want to do in our careers.

Yes, ten years has been joyful.   So happy to celebrate our big milestone in New Orleans with the love of my life!

So excited to spend March 10-13 with you in a new place (for me)! Another fun adventure!

Our Hotel, The Windsor Court

After taking a red-eye from LA to Nola we needed breakfast. Willa Jean's in the Central Business District,  a few blocks from our hotel didn't disappoint!  This was the avocado toast.

We found the famous Carousel Bar in the Hotel Monteleone in the French Quarter!  The rotating bar was so incredible cool and popular.  Luckily it took us about 5 minutes to find a seat at the bar which is constantly popular.  We tried the famous Vieux Carre Drinks which were incredibly strong and helped us spin even more!

Have to get the beignets in New Orleans but I was actually disappointed.  Told hubby, Disneyland's were better, lol!  Well, these were super cake like and the ones at Disneyland are light and fluffy.  Still delicious of course, but DL's are better!

The staff at the Hotel sent us up this plate of chocolate covered strawberries. Yum!

A little kiss poo at the Tiki Bar (Tiki Tolteca) Brian found in the French Quarter.

We were sitting at the bar when a lady came up complaining about the Mai Tai's.   It was such a to-do and it completely offended the two bartenders that Brian had to order one.  And the result, those bartenders knew what they were doing!  So the lady kind of became a mock the rest of the time we were at the bar.

We hopped the a street car to Magazine Street to catch the St. Patrick's Day Parade.

It was the wildest parade I have ever been to.  All I can wonder is what Mardi Grau is like?

Having a little green beer.

Met and saw a lot of interesting people at the parade.

I got kissed, gifted with flowers, thrown beads and even had a maraschino cherry dropped into my mouth.   The Irish in Nola know how to party!  We waited forever for the parade to begin, apparently they don't care about time down there in the South but we had a really fun time.

We came back to the hotel with so many beads we literally had to sort through to see which ones we would take home!

Another fun thing we did was sign up for a walking ghost tour.   Our host was an awesome storyteller. We really had a good time.  We even looked back through our photos of the night to try and see if any ghosts appeared.  I thought I found one in a picture but it turned out to be a lamp post. Or was it?

Picture of us at one of the walk tour stops, a haunted restaurant.

The famous New Orleans Jazz Breakfast at Commander's Palace was fun!

We experienced the high faulting high dining.

We decided to take a little walk after brunch in the cemetery across the street.

We found the Mad Hatter (Meyer the Hatter) and he was a crazy good salesman who made me buy this hat.  It was a fun experience and hubs got a dapper hat as well.

We stumbled into this impromptu band in the French Quarter.  Incredible music!

We walked the famous Bourbon Street.  It's really quite gritty. Everyone suggested we go to Frenchmen Street instead (which we did but it was crazy busy).  We saw all the famous bars people suggested but they were just so crowded we didn't go in.

Instead we grabbed burgers at Port of Call which was near Frenchmen Street.   We enjoyed the food so much we went back the next day and met these guys.  Had a fun time hanging out with these people while we waited to get the famous burger and baked potatoes.

We ate really well in New Orleans! The food was amazing.  We took a cab out to Treme to visit the famous Willie Mae's Scotch House.  We were told to go early so we did but the chicken truck hadn't arrived and they were out of chicken.  It was so disappointing but we ended up ordering chicken strips which were so amazing and the other comfort food was delicious as well.

We ate a late night dinner at the Cochon Butcher!  It was soon amazingly good! These smoked oysters were the highlight or was it the rabbit pot pie, or the charcuterie plate?  It was all good.  Even the smaller butcher shop next door.  We tried NO's famous muffuletta sandwich and chocolate
chip pie.

Tiki Tolteca

Sitting at Port of Call's Bar.  Kristy Forsgren brother who lived in Nola for a while suggested it was the best burger in NOLA.  It was. It really was.

The burger and baked potato looked so big we shared.

Me at the fancy Commander's Palace.

Foodies.

The last thing we wanted to do on our adult only trip was go to a museum but everyone said it was the most amazing museum in the U.S.  On our last day it rained a bit and we were out of ideas so after eating chicken at Willie Mae's we headed to the World War II Museum.   It truly was one of the best museums I ever been too.   It was so well done and they give you an identity of a person who was in the war and you followed their story throughout the museum experience.  The exhibits were amazing.  A must visit when you go to NOLA.

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

Surfing Goat Diary

We left the store and headed to the Surfing Goat Diary, again, this was a second trip for us but what was different this time is that we scheduled an hour long tour. Last time we arrive right before closing and were rushed. We spent a fair amount of time there exploring before the tour. We tried their cheesecake, we met the cats and dogs that roamed the place, we played in the playground, we pet and fed the baby goats that were penned up, and pursued the little store. Penny was eager to get her hands on the chocolate goat milk truffles. I must admit they did look good. I had my eyes on a t-shirt and a mug. Our tour started at 3:30pm that day and we met all the goats and learned all about the farm. But the most exciting part of the tour was getting the opportunity to milk the goats. Penny was quite a good milker. A friend later reminded me that Penny was breastfed (wink, wink). By the time the tour ended we were extremely hot. Maui was hot but also humid. We were ready to...

Vaccine Part 1

As a little girl I would look on my mom’s arm and wonder why she had such a weird mark near her shoulder. A few days ago, as the warm solution penetrated my bloodstream, I started to cry remembering my mom’s mark. The nurse asked me if I was okay and I told her I was so incredibly happy. As a diabetic I was stressed never knowing if I was doing enough to avoid it but also, keeping some semblance of life in doing outdoor things. I cried because I am incredibly grateful to the SCIENCE that made this possible in only a year. Less time for me to worry about my only kiddo should the worse happen.  If ur on the fence...I’ve worked in entertainment for over 20 years and I’ve seen first hand how easy celebrities influence the public.  Some do good and others well...I’m happy to have a little bit of the gracious Dolly Parton with me.  Scientists on the other hand, very rarely get the recognition for their years of study, years of research and expertise contributing to (wo)mankind....
