We Marched

A few days ago, I was very disheartened to stumble upon chatter describing the women who marched as silly and nonsensical. It really upset me because I know a ton of people who marched and they are anything but silly, whiners or poor losers.  How are we bad people for wanting to care for other people and save programs that benefit millions? I'm sure I'm posting to the wind but below explains why women (and men) who marched or supported the March gathered to resist.

"To those whom are confused or surprised about why millions of people showed up to protest on Saturday. Women are marching because our children deserve a secretary of education that cares about education. Women are marching because our family and friends deserve healthcare. Did you know that before the ACA, newborns in the NICU would hit their lifetime caps on health insurance coverage. That's right, Babies who had never felt the sun on their skin could no longer get health insurance. Women are marching because domestic violence crisis centers and after school programs deserve funding. Women are marching because we deserve clean air, clean water, and national parks.
Women are marching because we believe the children protected by the DREAM act deserve to be here and they deserve to live with their parents, not in orphanages and foster homes. And most of all, women are marching because we have the right to. The right to protest and speak out against our government is the first amendment. That's right, #1! It is one of our most fundamental American rights. Saying that we're whining, throwing temper tantrums, or that we're immature, or that we need to get over it will not stop us. It will not stop us from fighting for you. And we are fighting for you because you deserve these rights too. We're not marching because Trump won. We're marching because he wants to take all of the things that we hold dear away. All of the things that we've been fighting for for generations. And we're not giving up easily. Anyone who thinks we're marching because we lost just simply isn't listening. We're fighting because we refuse to lose more."

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

Buffalo Wild Wings

When I was going to Michigan State University, my friends and I would always go to BW3's for hot wings. They always had a variety of flavored wings from Honey BBQ to steaming hot, hot, death wings. Wings and a beer were just the thing to satisfy a busy student's appetite. When we frequented BW3's it was a dive bar but by the time my brother graduated from MSU they swapped locations for a building across the street and turned the name to Buffalo Wild Wings and the restaurant became more like a chain thing. Well, color me shocked the other day when we went to the movies and I saw a Buffalo Wild Wings being built in the AMC Burbank 16 complex. Apparently, after looking on their website they are one of the fastest top 10 chains in the US. So of course I had to introduce the hubby to one of my favorite college treats. I don't think he is so much a fan of chicken wings so we got boneless chicken wings a.k.a. tasty little chicken chunks in two of the flavored sauc...

Everyone is Having Kids

Yesterday, one of my roommates from the Burbank years gave birth to a little girl. This is her third child. While I am so completely happy for her this happy celebration has gotten me thinking about children and nosey people who ask me when I am going to have them. Some might think this subject is it too personal for blog talk but I figure if people want to bud into my business by asking me about kids then I can bud into yours by talking about them. I realize that I am physically old enough to have kids but being physically old enough isn't enough for me. Today, as I looked at my friend's blog describing her birthing experience, I realized the only reason I am thinking about children so much lately is because so many darn people are asking me about them. Every single friggin day I run into "Patty" at work. I have known her for a very long time and while I know she was super happy for me when I got married, I am so not happy about her enthusiasm about me having bab...
