With our first full day ahead of us, we jumped in the car and headed out for Maui's Upcountry. Our first stop was in the cowboy town of Makawao to get some pastries at Komodo's Bakery, a 119-year-old family run bakery. We enjoyed our tasty treats and proceed to walk around town. Penny was fascinated with the chickens that roamed freely around town. We must have arrive a bit too early as none of the shops were open. We did go into the General Store and an Art Gallery that was open. With our bellies full, we left Makawao and heads a bit further north to Ali Lavendar Farm. We had been there once before and really liked it so we thought we would take Penny. With sweeping views of Maui's shoreline and the most wonderful lavender fields we were surrounded by beauty. They offered a children's scavenger hunt which we explained to Penny was like the Disneyland Easter Egg Hunt. She quickly related to that idea and soon were were wondering the Farm trying to find the box that contained a stamp so we could stamp the various places on her card. The hunt took us to see Buddha's, Gazebo's, Secret Garden's, a ivy arch, and arts and crafts. When penny was finished collecting all of her stamps she turned the card in for a prize which was two huge cookies and some stickers. She loved the cookies and gave me the stickers.
After running all over the Lavender Farm, we were hungry and Penny was tired. She immediately fell asleep in the car while Dad and I got lost on some windy roads to Ulupalakua. One thing can be said about the addresses on Yelp and that is that they are fake addresses. Apparently, everyone in Maui gets around by mile markers. So once we got lost we called the Ulupalakua Ranch Store and pleaded for help. Luckily, they were able to get us going in the right direction. The small windy roads reminded me of a mini Road to Hana. We got to the store and Penny was still asleep. So we proceed to go and place an order for lunch. I had heard that this was the place to get a sandwich because the meat was literally mooing the previous day. Hubs took one look at the menu and his mouth was watering. I think he could have ordered a ton of things. I decided to go with the Lamb Burger, as that was the item the chef recommended. We took our order outdoor to the side of the building where 4 picnic tables were set up and we gave our order tab to the cook manning the grill. Then we proceeded to sit down at the last empty picnic table. We waited a few minutes looking around at our surrounding. There was a ton to take in. When our order was called I was excited, what they handed me looked soooo good. Upon first bite, it was confirmed good as well. Hubs really enjoyed his lunch. I must say, I enjoyed mine as well. It's not often I have a lamb burger. After lunch I went inside the store and looked around. They had a lot of local made items that were interesting to look at. I settled on a cute little shirt for Penny with a drawing of a horse on it. Of course, it was pink. She never woke up for lunch and we were worried because we knew she would be hungry when that happened.
When I was going to Michigan State University, my friends and I would always go to BW3's for hot wings. They always had a variety of flavored wings from Honey BBQ to steaming hot, hot, death wings. Wings and a beer were just the thing to satisfy a busy student's appetite. When we frequented BW3's it was a dive bar but by the time my brother graduated from MSU they swapped locations for a building across the street and turned the name to Buffalo Wild Wings and the restaurant became more like a chain thing. Well, color me shocked the other day when we went to the movies and I saw a Buffalo Wild Wings being built in the AMC Burbank 16 complex. Apparently, after looking on their website they are one of the fastest top 10 chains in the US. So of course I had to introduce the hubby to one of my favorite college treats. I don't think he is so much a fan of chicken wings so we got boneless chicken wings a.k.a. tasty little chicken chunks in two of the flavored sauc...
