Fourth of July in the "Wood" as in IngleWood

This year, we went to two Fourth of July parties. One at The August's and a block party at The Regul's. Early in the day we headed over to Mike, Jon, and Amy's for a bit of BBQ, swimming, and homemade carrot cake cupcakes which were oh-so-yummy! We had a great time hanging out with them. We had them practically to ourselves until it was time for us to leave which was about 2pm, then a few other guests came over. We headed home and I washed the chlorine out of my newly colored hair, grabbed some guac that Hubs made, put Moses in the car, and we headed down to Inglewood for the rest of the day. When we arrived we found Danielle's brother Joe Bosco in the kitchen making a 7-layer cake which seemed out of the ordinary for Joe. We quickly ran into Mike Montez and his fiancƩ, Allison, who were in town from Portland. Jung of course, was there as part of the LA crew and then some of Toby's friends had driven down to partake in the block party fun. The only person not there was Toby, who was supposed to fly in from Georgia but his plane was delayed. He got there just as we were leaving. Penny had fun bouncing in a bounce house, meeting a boa snake (yes, a guy brought his pet snake to the party), eating snow cones, gobbling down salty popcorn, and playing with neighborhood kids. She loved eating watermelon wedges and taking down the Bosco Cake, and of course, hanging out with her best pal, Danielle. When it came time for fireworks, Penny went bonkers at at the different displays which seemed to surround us. I don't think I've ever experienced anything quite like it before in my life! Fireworks were simply everywhere and they last for two hours. Moses did not like it. Poor guy was really scared. Both mom and dad sat with him until we left the Regul's. Poor Mo. Overall, it was a fun holiday!

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

Buffalo Wild Wings

When I was going to Michigan State University, my friends and I would always go to BW3's for hot wings. They always had a variety of flavored wings from Honey BBQ to steaming hot, hot, death wings. Wings and a beer were just the thing to satisfy a busy student's appetite. When we frequented BW3's it was a dive bar but by the time my brother graduated from MSU they swapped locations for a building across the street and turned the name to Buffalo Wild Wings and the restaurant became more like a chain thing. Well, color me shocked the other day when we went to the movies and I saw a Buffalo Wild Wings being built in the AMC Burbank 16 complex. Apparently, after looking on their website they are one of the fastest top 10 chains in the US. So of course I had to introduce the hubby to one of my favorite college treats. I don't think he is so much a fan of chicken wings so we got boneless chicken wings a.k.a. tasty little chicken chunks in two of the flavored sauc...

Everyone is Having Kids

Yesterday, one of my roommates from the Burbank years gave birth to a little girl. This is her third child. While I am so completely happy for her this happy celebration has gotten me thinking about children and nosey people who ask me when I am going to have them. Some might think this subject is it too personal for blog talk but I figure if people want to bud into my business by asking me about kids then I can bud into yours by talking about them. I realize that I am physically old enough to have kids but being physically old enough isn't enough for me. Today, as I looked at my friend's blog describing her birthing experience, I realized the only reason I am thinking about children so much lately is because so many darn people are asking me about them. Every single friggin day I run into "Patty" at work. I have known her for a very long time and while I know she was super happy for me when I got married, I am so not happy about her enthusiasm about me having bab...
