Fourth of July in the "Wood" as in IngleWood

This year, we went to two Fourth of July parties. One at The August's and a block party at The Regul's. Early in the day we headed over to Mike, Jon, and Amy's for a bit of BBQ, swimming, and homemade carrot cake cupcakes which were oh-so-yummy! We had a great time hanging out with them. We had them practically to ourselves until it was time for us to leave which was about 2pm, then a few other guests came over. We headed home and I washed the chlorine out of my newly colored hair, grabbed some guac that Hubs made, put Moses in the car, and we headed down to Inglewood for the rest of the day. When we arrived we found Danielle's brother Joe Bosco in the kitchen making a 7-layer cake which seemed out of the ordinary for Joe. We quickly ran into Mike Montez and his fiancé, Allison, who were in town from Portland. Jung of course, was there as part of the LA crew and then some of Toby's friends had driven down to partake in the block party fun. The only person not there was Toby, who was supposed to fly in from Georgia but his plane was delayed. He got there just as we were leaving. Penny had fun bouncing in a bounce house, meeting a boa snake (yes, a guy brought his pet snake to the party), eating snow cones, gobbling down salty popcorn, and playing with neighborhood kids. She loved eating watermelon wedges and taking down the Bosco Cake, and of course, hanging out with her best pal, Danielle. When it came time for fireworks, Penny went bonkers at at the different displays which seemed to surround us. I don't think I've ever experienced anything quite like it before in my life! Fireworks were simply everywhere and they last for two hours. Moses did not like it. Poor guy was really scared. Both mom and dad sat with him until we left the Regul's. Poor Mo. Overall, it was a fun holiday!

Vaccine Part 1

As a little girl I would look on my mom’s arm and wonder why she had such a weird mark near her shoulder. A few days ago, as the warm solution penetrated my bloodstream, I started to cry remembering my mom’s mark. The nurse asked me if I was okay and I told her I was so incredibly happy. As a diabetic I was stressed never knowing if I was doing enough to avoid it but also, keeping some semblance of life in doing outdoor things. I cried because I am incredibly grateful to the SCIENCE that made this possible in only a year. Less time for me to worry about my only kiddo should the worse happen.  If ur on the fence...I’ve worked in entertainment for over 20 years and I’ve seen first hand how easy celebrities influence the public.  Some do good and others well...I’m happy to have a little bit of the gracious Dolly Parton with me.  Scientists on the other hand, very rarely get the recognition for their years of study, years of research and expertise contributing to (wo)mankind....

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

So Proud

I have yet to bear children so I am not sure what its like to be proud of your kids but I do have this "kid" at work that I am extremely proud of this week. Three years ago, when I first transferred to my current studio due to "the merge" I was one of two people who made up the international marketing team. I am sure many of you remember me complaining how crazy I was. Anyhoo, during that time when we were setting up our team, this young girl walked into my office to interview for the internship position I was hiring for. I have been working with interns for as long as I can remember and before that, I worked with young kids at movie theatres. In all my years and in all those kids I had never met a person like the girl who walked into my office that day. It took all of two seconds for me to know she was talented and she was a star. After meeting with her I called off all the other interviews and told HR to hire her. She was a rock star intern! Later when w...
