Cheeseburger in Paradise

After years of avoiding this tourist trap we decided to visit it after a long morning in the ocean. We called up Dave and Verona to see if they wanted to join but they needed to drive to Costco to get supplies for tomorrow's beach picnic. I asked what Mary was doing and they said staying at home. I offered to take her to lunch and the offer was accepted. Due to her fall Verona was very worried about her mum but I promised to take good care of her. It's funny, Verona is normally the one watching my child and now I was the one doing the watching. Mary met us at the restaurant. I got us seats on the bottom level overlooking the ocean. I can see why people come because the views are amazing, the food however, is just okay. Cool Cats has better hamburgers and its just down the street. They don't have the view though. Regardless, it was fun to go somewhere new and I had a lot of fun talking to Mary. Penny and hubs took off after Penny decided she was done with the place and Mary and I found them in the ice cream shop next door! I thought for sure Mary (who loves ice cream) would get something but she didn't so I took a bite of the rapidly dripping ice cream cup that Penny was coveting. I was under orders to deliver Mary back to the ocean front house that Dave and Verona rented so we did just that. We marveled in the beach front house especially the hammock that overlooks the ocean. Hubs took a nice nap while I took Penny down to the beach. We hadn't planned on going in the ocean and didn't have suits. Luckily, Penny can just wear a swim diaper but she couldn't understand why I couldn't go in. I stayed out of the water for a while but when she made friends with a mom holding her 6 month old baby in the water it was long before she wanted to mimic that situation and demanded to sit on my lap in the water. Faced with this demand how could I say no, so I went in and got soaked. I had a good time despite some old man's remark that "he sees whose boss in my family." Luckily, Mary was kind enough to loan me a cover up so I didn't have to spend the rest of the afternoon uncomfortable in wet clothes. In fact, we were so comfortable with our surroundings that we stayed into the afternoon, stayed for Costco rotisserie chicken dinner and even had the gang watch Penny while we strolled to Lahaina to do a bit of shopping. We found a really cool T-Shirt Shop in town called Tilly Tams. We bought Hubs, Penny, and I a few shirts and hats to take home. Even though we didn't do much we were tired by the time we headed back to the hotel. Penny fell asleep in the car and she didn't wake up when we got her out.

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

Surfing Goat Diary

We left the store and headed to the Surfing Goat Diary, again, this was a second trip for us but what was different this time is that we scheduled an hour long tour. Last time we arrive right before closing and were rushed. We spent a fair amount of time there exploring before the tour. We tried their cheesecake, we met the cats and dogs that roamed the place, we played in the playground, we pet and fed the baby goats that were penned up, and pursued the little store. Penny was eager to get her hands on the chocolate goat milk truffles. I must admit they did look good. I had my eyes on a t-shirt and a mug. Our tour started at 3:30pm that day and we met all the goats and learned all about the farm. But the most exciting part of the tour was getting the opportunity to milk the goats. Penny was quite a good milker. A friend later reminded me that Penny was breastfed (wink, wink). By the time the tour ended we were extremely hot. Maui was hot but also humid. We were ready to...

My Favorite Gourmet Trucks

As of last night, I have now tried 18 food trucks! Only 60 more to go! My friends, Krueger and Kristy joined me at 55 Degree Wine in Atwar Village to try the always busy Grilled Cheese Truck! I have run into the truck a few times now but something has always prevented me from trying their food. Mostly the really, really long lines!! This time the hour wait wasn't so bad with two girls to gossip with. By the time we got to the front we were ready to execute our food plan. Kristy took lead and placed an order for 3 sandwiches (the brie, the mac-n-cheese and the rib meat) plus the dessert sandwich and some tator tots!!! I was a bit bummed that they didn't have the sandwich I went for, the Harvest sandwich but the 3 sandwiches we got more than made up for everything. I was glad to try this truck with 2 girls because we split the sandiches in 3rds which was awesome because I got to try a variety of their sandwiches. Now I must add the Grilled Cheese Truck to my list of fa...
