HAPPY NEW YEAR!
We got up at 5:30am to get ready for the parade. We woke Penny up at 630am and left the house a little before 7am. Pasadena is only 5 minutes from us but as we approached we encountered a sea of cars. Hubby excited immediately and took side streets. His quick thinking got us to Norton Simon Museum in no time at all. We picked up our tickets which were given to us by Caroline, who works for the museum and is able to put in a request for tickets each year.
Luckily we got the tickets because this year the MSU Spartans, my school, won the Big 10 Championship and were invited to play in the Rose Bowl against Standford. As we drove into Pasadena there was a sea of "green." I haven't seen so many Spartans in one place in over 15 years! It was very exciting to witness. Our seats were amazing! On Colorado Avenue right at the beginning of the parade route. Penny was truly excited by the parade. She loved the first hour and like a true toddler started squirming the second hour. It was cool to see the MSU band and surprising to see the quirkiness of the Standford band! We got Penny some green cotton candy which she devoured. It was really fun to be part of one of New Year's Day's biggest traditions. I had been to the parade once before, exactly 11 years ago in 2003 courtesy of Caroline but this one was special because of my Spartans.
After the parade we were invited over to Dave and Verona's house to watch the big game and grub on Mexican. The game was so close the entire 4 quarters but the Spartans pulled through and won the game!!!
As a little girl I would look on my mom’s arm and wonder why she had such a weird mark near her shoulder. A few days ago, as the warm solution penetrated my bloodstream, I started to cry remembering my mom’s mark. The nurse asked me if I was okay and I told her I was so incredibly happy. As a diabetic I was stressed never knowing if I was doing enough to avoid it but also, keeping some semblance of life in doing outdoor things. I cried because I am incredibly grateful to the SCIENCE that made this possible in only a year. Less time for me to worry about my only kiddo should the worse happen. If ur on the fence...I’ve worked in entertainment for over 20 years and I’ve seen first hand how easy celebrities influence the public. Some do good and others well...I’m happy to have a little bit of the gracious Dolly Parton with me. Scientists on the other hand, very rarely get the recognition for their years of study, years of research and expertise contributing to (wo)mankind....
