LaScalapolooza Father's Day

We;ve gotten to know Dave and Verona's family over the years and they have graciously started to invite us to family gatherings since we do not have any family in town. They are a fun bunch of Italians! On Father's Day, Verona's cousin Chip and his wife Nena hosted a BBQ party. Chip told us to come over a little early so Ms. P could go swimming with his children. Ms. P not only loves playing with older children (if you call 4 and 7 old) but she loves water so I thought swimming would be fun. Ms. P has been in pools before but it was last year when she was only a wee little thing. Now that she is a wee bigger and is more aware of her surrounding I can safely say she enjoyed her swimming experience. All the squeals and the fact that she wanted me to let go of her despite the fact that she can't swim, gave me a pretty good indicator that she liked the water. The kids played in the water for over an hour or rather until their lips turned blue and I had to pull Ms. P out of the pool. She had so much fun that I am going to have to get my act together and take to the public pool down the street. Not only was it fun for her but for me and got me some much needed exercise! After swimming, Nena had a wonderful spread waiting for us. Everyone brought a dish to pass (we brought a pie from THOP). I wasn't about to pass up tri-tip and mac n cheese so I thought I would cheat a little but alas when I took my blood sugar I was a-okay! Yay! I don't eat much beef anymore so the tri-tip was a special treat. We had fun hanging out on Chip's deck. Everyone enjoyed spending time with Ms. P and she had a great time with them. The kids ended up running around in the front yard by the end of the night. Verona said she will pass out when we we left for home but she must have been hyped up on all the treats she had because she wouldn't go to bed until 10:30pm that night! Ut Oh as she would say!

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

My Favorite Gourmet Trucks

As of last night, I have now tried 18 food trucks! Only 60 more to go! My friends, Krueger and Kristy joined me at 55 Degree Wine in Atwar Village to try the always busy Grilled Cheese Truck! I have run into the truck a few times now but something has always prevented me from trying their food. Mostly the really, really long lines!! This time the hour wait wasn't so bad with two girls to gossip with. By the time we got to the front we were ready to execute our food plan. Kristy took lead and placed an order for 3 sandwiches (the brie, the mac-n-cheese and the rib meat) plus the dessert sandwich and some tator tots!!! I was a bit bummed that they didn't have the sandwich I went for, the Harvest sandwich but the 3 sandwiches we got more than made up for everything. I was glad to try this truck with 2 girls because we split the sandiches in 3rds which was awesome because I got to try a variety of their sandwiches. Now I must add the Grilled Cheese Truck to my list of fa...

Surfing Goat Diary

We left the store and headed to the Surfing Goat Diary, again, this was a second trip for us but what was different this time is that we scheduled an hour long tour. Last time we arrive right before closing and were rushed. We spent a fair amount of time there exploring before the tour. We tried their cheesecake, we met the cats and dogs that roamed the place, we played in the playground, we pet and fed the baby goats that were penned up, and pursued the little store. Penny was eager to get her hands on the chocolate goat milk truffles. I must admit they did look good. I had my eyes on a t-shirt and a mug. Our tour started at 3:30pm that day and we met all the goats and learned all about the farm. But the most exciting part of the tour was getting the opportunity to milk the goats. Penny was quite a good milker. A friend later reminded me that Penny was breastfed (wink, wink). By the time the tour ended we were extremely hot. Maui was hot but also humid. We were ready to...
