Baby Girl and I spent Martin Luther King Day at the Zoo. It was quite an exciting trip because Baby Girl was much more aware of her surroundings then when we went 3 months ago. I knew when she saw the flamingos (pretty much the first exhibit at the zoo) and started crying upon me trying to take her to another exhibit that I was in for a very different zoo trip. And different it was. It was actually alot of fun because Baby Girl really enjoyed the animals. She loved the zebras and stuck her hands through the fence to try and touch them. She loved watching the giraffe eat from a tree. She had a ton of fun in the amphibian pavillion where she watched fish, turtles and snakes. She screamed with delight upon seeing the monkey swing from branch to branch. A friend of mine told me to always go to the zoo early. I found out why. Because around noon-1pm not only does the zoo get hot but a ton of people come through the doors. So glad we got our 3 hours in and left the madhouse at 1pm. I hope noone else finds out the 10am secret because I like having the zoo to myself! Baby girl and I ended our trip with a pin on the carousel. At first she wasn't into it but she was watching other people and how they grabbed onto the gold bar and so she too grabbed tight. Its funny watching her observe the world. She really is learning everything for the first time!
As a little girl I would look on my mom’s arm and wonder why she had such a weird mark near her shoulder. A few days ago, as the warm solution penetrated my bloodstream, I started to cry remembering my mom’s mark. The nurse asked me if I was okay and I told her I was so incredibly happy. As a diabetic I was stressed never knowing if I was doing enough to avoid it but also, keeping some semblance of life in doing outdoor things. I cried because I am incredibly grateful to the SCIENCE that made this possible in only a year. Less time for me to worry about my only kiddo should the worse happen. If ur on the fence...I’ve worked in entertainment for over 20 years and I’ve seen first hand how easy celebrities influence the public. Some do good and others well...I’m happy to have a little bit of the gracious Dolly Parton with me. Scientists on the other hand, very rarely get the recognition for their years of study, years of research and expertise contributing to (wo)mankind....
