My Birthday Celebration

Have you ever noticed that weekends go by too quickly? I think we should rally the troops for a 3 day weekend! What do you think? Are you with me?

This past weekend we celebrated my 36th year of birth. Hubby threw me a party at our house. Together with his partner in crime, my MIL, Rosemary, they decked the house out with balloons, sushi cupcakes, a backyard movie projector, a cotton candy machine, a snow cone machine, and did I say a ton of food?

I had a great time visiting with all my peeps, many of whom I haven't seen in a while. I think I can say the cotton candy machine was a hit! Everyone had so much fun twirling sugar around in a bowl and spinning sugar into various forms. The alcoholic snow cones (for the non-pregnant people) were also a hit.

Hubby and MIL's homemade sushi cupcakes were really delicious as well. I have been craving sushi like mad but due to pregnancy I am not allowed to have any so dear sweet hubby took one of my favorite things (sushi) and mixed it with another (cupcakes). I think the pair did a good job decorating although I think at moments they weren't sure they were going to turn out. That is always the case with decorating cake. You never think its going to be good and then the end result is amazing because no one else ever thinks they can make the same thing, thus making your project all the more amazing!

I love having parties in my backyard. Everyone was amazed by the updates we did in our yard which amazed me because i felt like we hadn't done anything great except blow leaves around. But all their encouragement made me want to finish the other projects we had planned for the backyard! Well, maybe after I decorate a nursury, fix the bonus room and install a new front door and a new bonus room door, I can work on the backyard. There is always the kitchen remodel too. So many ideas too little time. I guess a house is never finished!

After visiting and eating and eating and eating some more hubby set up the movie projector in the backyard and a small group of us watched Goonies on the white wall of our garage. It was fun. I wish the projector was a little better as the picture was a little grainy but it was good fun and there was something magical about watching a movie underneath the stars on a warm summer evening.

Overall, I had a great birthday week. I am very lucky to have such great friends and family memebers who made my week memorable! So thank you to all!!

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

My Favorite Gourmet Trucks

As of last night, I have now tried 18 food trucks! Only 60 more to go! My friends, Krueger and Kristy joined me at 55 Degree Wine in Atwar Village to try the always busy Grilled Cheese Truck! I have run into the truck a few times now but something has always prevented me from trying their food. Mostly the really, really long lines!! This time the hour wait wasn't so bad with two girls to gossip with. By the time we got to the front we were ready to execute our food plan. Kristy took lead and placed an order for 3 sandwiches (the brie, the mac-n-cheese and the rib meat) plus the dessert sandwich and some tator tots!!! I was a bit bummed that they didn't have the sandwich I went for, the Harvest sandwich but the 3 sandwiches we got more than made up for everything. I was glad to try this truck with 2 girls because we split the sandiches in 3rds which was awesome because I got to try a variety of their sandwiches. Now I must add the Grilled Cheese Truck to my list of fa...

Surfing Goat Diary

We left the store and headed to the Surfing Goat Diary, again, this was a second trip for us but what was different this time is that we scheduled an hour long tour. Last time we arrive right before closing and were rushed. We spent a fair amount of time there exploring before the tour. We tried their cheesecake, we met the cats and dogs that roamed the place, we played in the playground, we pet and fed the baby goats that were penned up, and pursued the little store. Penny was eager to get her hands on the chocolate goat milk truffles. I must admit they did look good. I had my eyes on a t-shirt and a mug. Our tour started at 3:30pm that day and we met all the goats and learned all about the farm. But the most exciting part of the tour was getting the opportunity to milk the goats. Penny was quite a good milker. A friend later reminded me that Penny was breastfed (wink, wink). By the time the tour ended we were extremely hot. Maui was hot but also humid. We were ready to...
