The Day After Christmas

...was spent shopping but not because we wanted to but because we had to! Had to you you say? One of our Christmas presents was a gift certificate to a mall and since we don't live nearby we just had to get out there and spend it. Some of you might say well why don't you save it? Well, apparently these days if you get a gift card it can expire or they can access fees to the gift card so that it pretty much eliminates the sum given if you wait too long to spend it. The card we received was a $30 gift card and according to the rules it deductions $2.50 per quarter. Well at 4 quarters that is $10 a year! Isn't that crazy? I thought it was illegal in California for Gift Certificates to expire but apparently if the gift certificate is linked to a VISA, AMEX or MASTERCARD those companies can deduct maintenance fees whenever they want! Hubby's mom mentioned she had a gift card from the same mall from a few years ago and when she went to check the balance it said $0. After 3 years the maintenance fees deducted the whole $30. Can you say bummer? This is why I spend my gift cards immediately. Those puppies rarely sit in my purse more than a few months if I can try.

On this particular day we tried to spend the $30 at a variety of stores but couldn't find anything we needed that is until we ran into a Bath and Body Shop. That is one sure fire place you can spend $$. Girls and a lot of guys I know like to smell good so you can always be assured a girl wants some lotion, soap or something else that smells good. Well, I happened to find a gift basket with a ton of products in it! It's regular price was $110.00 and with the 75% off after Christmas sale I got that basket for $29.83! Best bargin this year (for me - hubby's best deal was a terabyte of hard drive space for $25, regularly a $150)! Anyhow, I turned around to the next person in line and gave them my remaining card with .17 cents. She smiled, I smiled and it was smiling on the way out of the store!

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

My Favorite Gourmet Trucks

As of last night, I have now tried 18 food trucks! Only 60 more to go! My friends, Krueger and Kristy joined me at 55 Degree Wine in Atwar Village to try the always busy Grilled Cheese Truck! I have run into the truck a few times now but something has always prevented me from trying their food. Mostly the really, really long lines!! This time the hour wait wasn't so bad with two girls to gossip with. By the time we got to the front we were ready to execute our food plan. Kristy took lead and placed an order for 3 sandwiches (the brie, the mac-n-cheese and the rib meat) plus the dessert sandwich and some tator tots!!! I was a bit bummed that they didn't have the sandwich I went for, the Harvest sandwich but the 3 sandwiches we got more than made up for everything. I was glad to try this truck with 2 girls because we split the sandiches in 3rds which was awesome because I got to try a variety of their sandwiches. Now I must add the Grilled Cheese Truck to my list of fa...

Surfing Goat Diary

We left the store and headed to the Surfing Goat Diary, again, this was a second trip for us but what was different this time is that we scheduled an hour long tour. Last time we arrive right before closing and were rushed. We spent a fair amount of time there exploring before the tour. We tried their cheesecake, we met the cats and dogs that roamed the place, we played in the playground, we pet and fed the baby goats that were penned up, and pursued the little store. Penny was eager to get her hands on the chocolate goat milk truffles. I must admit they did look good. I had my eyes on a t-shirt and a mug. Our tour started at 3:30pm that day and we met all the goats and learned all about the farm. But the most exciting part of the tour was getting the opportunity to milk the goats. Penny was quite a good milker. A friend later reminded me that Penny was breastfed (wink, wink). By the time the tour ended we were extremely hot. Maui was hot but also humid. We were ready to...
