Going to a Hollywood Gala Party

So Monday night, my pal Lisa texts me and asks if I would like to be her date to the 50th Anniversary Gala celebrating 50 Years of the Hollywood Walk of Fame (you know the stars on the side walk). It sounded fun so I said yes. Her boyfriend works for the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, who was one of the sponsors of the event so he couldn't really spend the evening with her as he was working the event, so she asked me to be her plus one. I showed up at the Hollywood/Vine Ballroom at 7:30pm and I was amazed at how big the event was. It was a fancy cocktail party. Luckily I was in a black dress but still I didn't feel as dressed up as I should have been. Lisa looked really good in her brand new cocktail dress from Macy's. See her picture? Don't you just love that big necklace? I thought she looked really good that night. Very glamor girl! We meet Tim, her boyfriend, who gave us our wristbands to the event. We entered the big ballroom doors and Lisa immediately spotted David Hasslehoff. I think she must have really liked him because she sure did stare at him for a while!! There were a lot of celebrities there that night so we had fun spotting people we grew up with. The gala celebrated the people who have received a star of the Walk of Fame. Some of the stars we saw: Frank Marshall, Nancy Sinatra, Tippi Hendren, Mary Hart from Entertainment Tonight, Mickey Rooney, Arsenio Hall, and a ton of other people I am sure you would recognize but whose names escape me at this moment. The food was catered by Wolfgang Puck so Lisa and I went from food station to food station sampling the food, which was pretty good. We of course, visited the open bar for our champagne and cocktails and we perused a "Cupcake Wars" winner's display that had a million yummy looking cupcakes displayed. But the coolest thing was that the party was sponsored by Loreal, Paris which had set up several make up stations in the ballroom and this nice lady totally glammed Lisa and I up with the latest products. It was a real treat for me cuz I never spend anytime playing around with makeup so it was nice to sit with someone who knew what they were doing and what they were applying! Not only did we get all made up but she gave us free samples of lipsticks and eyeliners and better yet, at the end of the night we were each given a goodie bag tht contained a ton of Loreal products from shampoo to lip stick to moisturizer. It was super sweet! Perhaps one of the best gift bags I have received in a long time! Lisa and I ended our night by meeting and getting our picture taken with Tippi Hendren, you know the actress in the famous Alfred Hitchcock movie called "The Birds." I had taken a Hitchcock class in college where we studied "The Birds" so it was pretty neat to meet Tippi in person. The whole night was a little surreal as there are Lisa and me amongst this room full of entertainment personalities. We were two little birds on the wall observing the rich and glamorous! Fun times!

Buffalo Wild Wings

When I was going to Michigan State University, my friends and I would always go to BW3's for hot wings. They always had a variety of flavored wings from Honey BBQ to steaming hot, hot, death wings. Wings and a beer were just the thing to satisfy a busy student's appetite. When we frequented BW3's it was a dive bar but by the time my brother graduated from MSU they swapped locations for a building across the street and turned the name to Buffalo Wild Wings and the restaurant became more like a chain thing. Well, color me shocked the other day when we went to the movies and I saw a Buffalo Wild Wings being built in the AMC Burbank 16 complex. Apparently, after looking on their website they are one of the fastest top 10 chains in the US. So of course I had to introduce the hubby to one of my favorite college treats. I don't think he is so much a fan of chicken wings so we got boneless chicken wings a.k.a. tasty little chicken chunks in two of the flavored sauc...

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

The Lost Art of Letter Writing

This week I was the recepient of two postcards. In the age of e-mailing and blogging this is a rare occurrrance. It's not that people don't write anymore it's just they are doing it in different forms and I think in less personal forms. It's kinda sad when you think about it. For me, there is nothing better then getting a hand written letter in the mail because it means someone was specifically thinking about you. Writing a letter these days takes a lot of effort when GMail is so near. I mean a person has to pick out stationary (if they even have any on hand), find time to sit down and compose a letter (and who has a spare half hour these days?), find or buy a stamp and actually walk the letter to the mailbox. With all this effort, no wonder people email these days! My girlfriend Becky and I joke that the United States Postal Service has become "Snail Mail." Most times before a letter gets to us these days we already know the information inside ...
