Today Was A Good Day!

So each year the co-workers try and find new ways to celebrate people's birthdays. Lately, since everyone has come to realize there will be a party on their birthday, the crew has started doing these sneaky surprises that are a few days ahead of your birthday. You never know when you are going to get hit so it makes it hard to take a day off to avoid what is sure to be an embarrassing birthday party. This year I told the crew that I didn't want to have a big ole party and made them promise there would be no big party. Soooooo this morning I get to my office door and there is a hula girl on it. I open the door and to my surprise they had decorated my office like Hawaii. They even flew in two leis from Hawaii and had Hawaiian music playing. I was very touched by the gesture as I have been aching to go to Hawaii. Oddly enough the leis made me feel like I was in Hawaii and for the first time in a long time I was completely relaxed. I sure play Hawaiian music in my office more often! The crew said "see we didn't through you a birthday party." I guess the were right. Loved my office though.

At lunch I went to get my hair cut at the studio salon. I have been going for a while but I don't do it regularly cuz I am generally bad with girl maintenance and stuff. Anyhoo, today I was feeling kinda good and was ready for a change so I told her cut my hair anyway she wanted to. And she did. She took off about 4 inches of hair and I must say gave me a super cute cut. I am pretty sure there is no way I am ever going to be able to style it the way she did (isn't that always the case?) So not only did I have lei' but a new cut to go with them.

Then after the hair cut I had a movie screening to go. All I can say is that there is a really good George Clooney moving coming out. An afternoon of hubba, hubba George....I really do have a cool job! George Clooney seems like he'd be a fun guy to hang out with.

Got home and started baking some cakes for the margarita birthday party I am throwing myself and a bunch of other August Birthday Leo's I know tomorrow night at the house! the hub and I have been making stuff from those recipes you find in magazines and guess what??? We have been eating pretty good lately! This week alone he made an avocado dish and I made the two cakes. Thank you Sunset Magazine, Martha Stewart Living, Coastal Living and Health magazines!!

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

Vaccine Part 1

As a little girl I would look on my mom’s arm and wonder why she had such a weird mark near her shoulder. A few days ago, as the warm solution penetrated my bloodstream, I started to cry remembering my mom’s mark. The nurse asked me if I was okay and I told her I was so incredibly happy. As a diabetic I was stressed never knowing if I was doing enough to avoid it but also, keeping some semblance of life in doing outdoor things. I cried because I am incredibly grateful to the SCIENCE that made this possible in only a year. Less time for me to worry about my only kiddo should the worse happen.  If ur on the fence...I’ve worked in entertainment for over 20 years and I’ve seen first hand how easy celebrities influence the public.  Some do good and others well...I’m happy to have a little bit of the gracious Dolly Parton with me.  Scientists on the other hand, very rarely get the recognition for their years of study, years of research and expertise contributing to (wo)mankind....

Surfing Goat Diary

We left the store and headed to the Surfing Goat Diary, again, this was a second trip for us but what was different this time is that we scheduled an hour long tour. Last time we arrive right before closing and were rushed. We spent a fair amount of time there exploring before the tour. We tried their cheesecake, we met the cats and dogs that roamed the place, we played in the playground, we pet and fed the baby goats that were penned up, and pursued the little store. Penny was eager to get her hands on the chocolate goat milk truffles. I must admit they did look good. I had my eyes on a t-shirt and a mug. Our tour started at 3:30pm that day and we met all the goats and learned all about the farm. But the most exciting part of the tour was getting the opportunity to milk the goats. Penny was quite a good milker. A friend later reminded me that Penny was breastfed (wink, wink). By the time the tour ended we were extremely hot. Maui was hot but also humid. We were ready to...
