The Mission Tiki Drive In

When was the last time you have been to a drive in? Most people probably would say "A long time ago." Well, last night the hub and i decided to go check out Mission Tiki, a four screen drive in that was remodeled a few year ago. I am always forgetting it's there until I recently signed up for their newsletter which started coming this past month and which prompted the visit. The entire drive in has been remodeled like Hawaii. It's awesome for Hawaii lovers like the hub and me. The drive in is about 27 miles from LA near Covina. Not super close but hey, how often does a person get to go to a drive in? Not very often. It was about a half hour drive and luckily traffic was good. We of course good some eats at the concession stand but had fun observing everyone. There were people with Windex wiping their window shields, making sure that they had the perfect view. There were groups with their lawn chairs set up. There were people who had stopped to get a pizza. There were carloads of people in their pajama's. Overall, it was a beautiful evening. The weather was perfect. Not to hot and not to cold. A nice breeze. A perfect California evening. We watched the Sandra Bullock flick THE PROPOSAL and the JACK BLACK flick YEAR ONE. Both were okay movies but the experience of being out there in your car with your snacks with a community of cars was just wonderful. Brought back some of the childhood magic. Gosh I wish there was one that was closer but I can only imagine in LA it would be a busy mess. So maybe the drive out to no where to catch a biz of the past magic is best. I can't wait to go again. I think next time I am going to organize my peeps so we can tailgate and watch a film!

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of ...

Surfing Goat Diary

We left the store and headed to the Surfing Goat Diary, again, this was a second trip for us but what was different this time is that we scheduled an hour long tour. Last time we arrive right before closing and were rushed. We spent a fair amount of time there exploring before the tour. We tried their cheesecake, we met the cats and dogs that roamed the place, we played in the playground, we pet and fed the baby goats that were penned up, and pursued the little store. Penny was eager to get her hands on the chocolate goat milk truffles. I must admit they did look good. I had my eyes on a t-shirt and a mug. Our tour started at 3:30pm that day and we met all the goats and learned all about the farm. But the most exciting part of the tour was getting the opportunity to milk the goats. Penny was quite a good milker. A friend later reminded me that Penny was breastfed (wink, wink). By the time the tour ended we were extremely hot. Maui was hot but also humid. We were ready to...

Vaccine Part 1

As a little girl I would look on my mom’s arm and wonder why she had such a weird mark near her shoulder. A few days ago, as the warm solution penetrated my bloodstream, I started to cry remembering my mom’s mark. The nurse asked me if I was okay and I told her I was so incredibly happy. As a diabetic I was stressed never knowing if I was doing enough to avoid it but also, keeping some semblance of life in doing outdoor things. I cried because I am incredibly grateful to the SCIENCE that made this possible in only a year. Less time for me to worry about my only kiddo should the worse happen.  If ur on the fence...I’ve worked in entertainment for over 20 years and I’ve seen first hand how easy celebrities influence the public.  Some do good and others well...I’m happy to have a little bit of the gracious Dolly Parton with me.  Scientists on the other hand, very rarely get the recognition for their years of study, years of research and expertise contributing to (wo)mankind....
