When are you going to have kids is a phrase we hear a lot. And today, I am happy to tell you that the hubby and I have finally decided it's time for us to share our life and open our hearts to yes, a chi...nope, a dog!! Yep, one day soon a little happy, bouncy, puppy will grace our home.
Our doggie search really started to come to light about 6 months ago when a gal at work asked me if I would adopt this cute dog called Dillon. I looked at Dillon's picture a million times, later renaming him Bob Dillon over a period of 3 days. We really wanted him but wasn't sure. When the hubby and I decided to take the leap little Bob Dillon was gone and we were sad. Then we started going to pet shop's in the mall a lot. Several times we wanted to take home a little rascal but something always stopped us.
Well, a couple of weeks ago we talked about kids seriously but we both found that subject to still be super scary and that is when we decided to turn our attention to a dog. We will see how well life gets on with a four-legged, poopie, responsibility first then see if we want to go for the two-legged poopie responsibility.
So the hunt is on to find a small, super cute dog who doesn't shed. I really, really, wanted this white Cavapoo (a mix between a poodle and a cavalier) with a little bit of brown hair on her face (her hair was more like a cavalier's then a poodle's if you are googling what this dog looks like), at the pet store at the mall! I even named her Cotton and got way too attached her. But in the end since we decided to take on a four-legged responsibility we decided not to get her and be responsible and learn more about a dog before grabbing one at the pet store. So we left poor Cotton and have been reading books and doing research.
One thing we found out is that it is so not cool to buy pets at the mall because a lot of the the puppies come from puppies mills. And when I found out what a puppy mill was all about I just couldn't support that and get Cotton. Plus, the hubby googled the pet store name and there were a lot of complaints about dogs getting sick and dying a year after purchase. So with my heart broken again the search continues for a non-puppy mill dog.
Besides looking at breeders online, we also visited three local animal shelters. Those dogs were oh so sad (the ones in Glendale and Pasadena broke my heart. The one's in Burbank looked a little happier, in case anyone is wondering). I wanted to take all the dogs home! But unfortunately, I just didn't find the right one at the shelters we visited. The Pasadena shelter had all pittbulls and chiuaua's. Glendale had just a few dogs and they all looked very sad. Burbank had this one cute puppy I could have took home and would have but the vet wasn't sure what kind of dog it was and I couldn't take a chance that the dog would get really big. Our little house can only support a small dog. We are doing a bunch of research and hopefully, one day soon we will add a puppy to The Reasler family.
If you have any suggestions about what kind of dog we should get or have any great advise we would love to hear it, please leave a note in the comments.
