Halloween

October flew by, I guess it was all the visitors. This past week I hung out with some Michigan homies at the Staples Center. The Detroit Red Wings were playing the LA Kings. I couldn't decide who to root for because I have come to be fans of both teams. Normally, I take the Kings side in these big match ups you know since I live in LA now but since I was with a bunch of Michigan people (Abbie, Grant and Jeff) I thought I'd better conform to the red side or they might hurt me. Good thing I did because it was a very exciting game with Detroit winning in an overtime shoot out. We all know the championship Wings are hard to beat when it comes to a shoot out.

Tuesday had me hanging out with Jeff again for Taco Tuesday. The hub and Leslie joined us for a heated political debate over $5 all you can eat tacos at the Cabo Cantina on Sunset. I hadn't seen Jeff since his birthday in May so two nights in a row caught us all up on what has been going on in each others lives.

Wednesday I was completely tired and for some reason completely blue. I think those dumb barking dogs and the lack of sleep each night got to me. Not only was I tired and grumpy but not wanting to be in the world. Do you ever have those days?

Thursday, I was still feeling blue until I had lunch with my good friend, Rhonda who seemed to break the ice off my blue exterior that had overcome me. Later that afternoon I came into $125 of free money courtesy of some health survey work wanted us to fill out which involved the whole floor getting into a gift certificate frenzy. You see after feeling out a health survey the company gave each person $125 which turned into points that could buy you gift certificates and merchandise from a million stores and restaurants. I am still figuring out if I should be practical in my choice or blow the money on something fun. Hum?

So as I was figuring out which gift certificate to get this lady walks in my office with a big bouquet of flowers. They were from my dear hubby. He had sent them to me to try and cheer me up. The flowers were a most excellent surprise and made me smile instantly. Don't I have such a nice hubby? So as Thursday ended I started to feel better.

Friday, was Halloween. It was a pretty fun day at work. Three co-workers hosted a halloween party in our conference room. It wasn't any ole office party. They went all out with masks for everyone, dry ice, decorations, games and not to mention a ton of homemade sweets. It was a fun afternoon. After work the hub meet me at the house and we went to Lisa Loo Dog's boyfriend's Haunted House in Weho. Normally, I try to stay away from Weho at Halloween due to the carnival on Santa Monica but we managed to avoid that crazy, crowded mess. Last time I went years ago I was literally almost crushed to death in a stampede so I don't ever feel like going back to a place that doesn't care about crowd control. The hub and I had a ton of fun dressing up (see pictures).

Yesterday, down to our last $16 in cash we hit the tamale festival downtown. We lucked out and found a .50 cent parking space and avoided the $5 lot parking. Then we took our dollars to the millions of tamales stands. Apparently, the pineapple tamale is he most popular, as we waited in two lines only to be told it was sold out. We tried a couple of award-winning tamales and some non- award winning, but still good, taquitos. I really liked this sweet tasting tamale that had guava and cheese from Columbia. I don't think I ever had a dessert like tamale before. I was amazed at all the flavors they had. I think the most exotic tamale I have ever had was green corn and of course chicken, beef and cheese. There was even a stand called "White Girl's Tamales." The music was great. They had a a guy spinning all the cool tunes from before the 90"s.

We left downtown with $1 left and headed to the movies in Burbank. I thought I was buying tickets for a movie about "some Play List" which I later learned was named "Nick and Nora's Ultimate Play List" but I ended up with tickets for "Zach & Miri Make a Porno". See, I thought I was buying tickets to "Nick and Nora." When I went up to the ticket booth the sign said "Zach & Miri" and I thought that was the movie I wanted to see. Brian thought I had wanted to see Zach & Miri and thus enlightened me on my mistake when I started yabbering on about the nerdy kid from Juno. Then he figured out I had bought the wrong tickets. Since "Nick & Nora" wasn't even playing anymore I was stuck with "Zach & Miri." I didn't know what I was in for until the credits came up and I saw Seth Rogan's name. Now that can either be a good thing (Super Bad) or a bad thing (Pineapple Express), luckily it was a good thing. It was a pretty funny movie about these two roommates who decide to make porn to pay their bills.

Today we are heading back to downtown to go to the Natural History Museum. It's corporate day at the Museum so all employees at my company can get in free. I love Natural History Museums so I signed us up to see the dinosaur bones! We will go when the hubby wakes up.

Oh my gosh, good news!!! During my depths of despair moments this week and just when I was going to use my go-go gadget legs to jump over the fence and smack my neighbors dog silly, my neighbor Virg came over and told me he had stayed home from work one day this week and heard the dog barking. That coupled with the fact that he heard me yelling the other morning he went over to the neighbor and spoke to him about the dogs. Apparently, the guy never got any of my notes (likely story) but he felt completely bad that this had been going on for over a year and seemed embarrassed. He explained that prior to the big German Shepherd dog he had 3 tiny dogs which animal control came and took away. Anyhoo, the guy gave Virg a long ole story and agreed to get a bark collar or keep the dog inside. Apparently the barking never bothered the man! It's been 3 glorious nights so far of no barking. I can't even tell you what its like to get a full night's rest. I feel like a new person. I feel like a less cranky person!

Behind Door Number One

Have you ever watched those TV Game shows where they have a couple of doors and behind one is a grand prize? Well, this weekend the hub and I found out what was behind our Door #1. The hubby and I are starting the beginning phases of landscaping our backyard. Our first step, was to clean out the area behind our garage. When we moved in, there was about 2 feet of walking space behind our garage the rest of the area was covered in vines. Vines were growing on the roof and generally it was a mess. Not wanting the vines to take over the roof, we I started to clear out the vines last fall. But after we cut a million vines with only a pair of clippers we gave up and decided to clean out the rest in the spring. Spring came around and we didn't do much until one day when I was sick a few weeks ago, I ran into our gardener. I showed him the mess and asked if he knew of anyone who could come clean it out. I could tell he was actually, quite happy for me to broach the subject of
